Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We work with local operators and suppliers in Ecuador and the Galapagos who are strong advocates of sustainable tourism practices. Throughout the supply chain we are committed to working with local communities and conservation experts to minimise the impact of travel.

Island visits are controlled by the Galapagos National Park Authority and anyone who visits must pay a park fee and comply with the environmental regulations. The Seaman Journey is a first-class catamaran with a capacity for 16 passengers, being smaller reduces environmental impact compared with large cruise ships. The catamaran employs a comprehensive recycling program, energy-efficient systems, waste management protocols and minimal single-use plastics, to help protect the marine and island ecosystems. The itineraries follow conservation rules and support protected areas as approved by Galapagos National Park Authority and organisations like the WWF.

During every cruise departure, guests are invited to take park in meaningful conservation efforts in partnership with the Galapagos Conservation Trust. Through the Happy Whale program, guests can help track and identify marine mammals, contributing to vital research. The Garbology program allows guests to engage in understanding and reducing ocean plastic pollution too.

The Seaman Journey takes pride in its commitment to sustainability and local sourcing. They have an exclusive hydroponic plantation on San Cristobal Island which provides fresh, organic produce for the onboard dining experience. This farm-to-table program supports sustainable agriculture in the islands and avoids arrival of invasive species.

People

On the ground in Quito, we work with local guides and transfers and use boutique accommodation in the historic centre. Employees are mostly from the surrounding area, and we encourage guests to get out and explore to help them get a feel for the area and encourage spend in the local community through restaurants, gifts and experiences.
In the Galapagos Islands, supplies come from local sourcing on the islands’ keeping revenue within the archipelago. In 2024, the cruise operators received the Gold Award in the "Employing and Upskilling Local Communities" category at the LATA Responsible Tourism awards as a result of their dedication to sustainable tourism and efforts in supporting 40 families in Ecuador by offering income and skill development opportunities through cultural experiences and partnerships. Cruise operators also show a genuine concern for caring for their employees and are committed to creating a safe, fair, and inclusive workplace where staff can thrive personally and professionally.
