Western Isles (Outer Hebrides)
A wild, windswept paradise, the Hebrides lie just off Scotland’s west coast.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

1. To help reduce carbon emissions we include pick-ups and drop-offs at public transport locations in Inverness at the tour start and end.
2. Food options almost always will include Vegetarian and Vegan dietary options as standard (dietary requirements are requested from guests prior to our tour commencing so this can be planned and catered for).

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

1. We travel in a small group with a maximum of 10 to maintain minimal impact on wildlife, sensitive habitats and small island communities.
2. As far as possible, we never use single-use plastics, encouraging our guests to bring personal reusable water bottles. We encourage our guests and our partners to exercise a Reduce, Reuse and Recycle mindset and take this forward on further travels.
3. Our company operates a ‘no paper’ policy, and as such we send all our tour information to guests digitally.
4. This tour directly supports (and includes a visit to) the Scottish Highland-based charity Trees for Life. For every guest who joins this tour, at least one native tree will be planted in our woodland grove. During the tour itself we also support the RSPB, the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust and Bumblebee Trust through visiting sites including RSPB Balranald and by recording and submitting our sightings of cetaceans, birds and bees over the course of the tour.

LOCAL ECONOMY

1. We stay in independently-owned accommodation rather than chain hotels. We pride ourselves on the good relationships we have developed and maintain with local businesses.
2. All food is purchased locally for the tour and there are opportunistic visits to local businesses and markets for guests to purchase local crafts and foods. We also encourage guests to try traditional foods where available.
3. We utilise our well-developed network of local contacts to achieve optimal wildlife sightings, demonstrating our value of local knowledge and promoting the research and work of local nature groups across the Outer Hebrides.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

We support local businesses throughout the tour, contributing to the islands’ economies for which tourism is very important. Although our tour has a wildlife focus we visit and talk about local historic sites as this rich history is intrinsically linked to the landscape and how it has changed over time and subsequently supports the natural environment that we enjoy today.

All of our tours are LGBTQ+ friendly.
