CARBON REDUCTION

As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

This walking holiday has a low carbon footprint, as hiking is inherently a low-impact form of travel. Our days are spent exploring on foot, following a leave-nothing-but-footprints, take-only-photos approach that minimises environmental impact. While public transport is not available every day due to the remote nature of the landscapes we visit, we make use of lower-carbon transport options where possible, including local ferries such as the crossing from Hjelmeland to Nesvik. Our route balances iconic highlights, such as Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), with quieter, lesser-visited areas to help disperse tourism pressure. A good example is the coastal walk around Glesvær, a peaceful and scenic route that showcases a different side of the region away from the main tourist trails. The walk finishes at Glesvær Kafé, a small, locally run café that supports the village community, serving homemade food using local ingredients and offering a welcoming place to rest and connect with local life. By travelling slowly, supporting local businesses, and choosing walking wherever possible, this holiday significantly reduces carbon emissions while delivering a rich and responsible travel experience.

ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
We use a range of hotels throughout the tour, with the following responsible credentials: several properties hold recognised third-party environmental certifications such as the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and Norway’s Miljøfyrtårn (Eco-Lighthouse), which set strict standards for energy efficiency, water use, waste reduction and responsible sourcing. We use the Scandic Neptune in Bergen who purchase 100% renewable electricity and operate under robust sustainability strategies. In addition, all hotels benefit from Norway’s largely renewable national electricity grid, further reducing the overall environmental impact of overnight stays.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Our tour leaders are from the local area, either born there or having lived there for many years, bringing deep knowledge of the landscape, culture and traditions. We also employ a local specialist guide for the hike from Øystese to the Fyksesund Fjord, ensuring that the benefits of tourism directly support the local economy through skilled employment. Using local experts helps retain income within the community, supports year-round livelihoods in rural areas, and encourages the preservation of local knowledge, heritage and responsible access to the landscape. Throughout the tour, we prioritise locally sourced, seasonal food, choosing dishes that reflect regional produce and traditional cuisine. This reduces food miles, supports local farmers and producers, and ensures meals are fresher and more closely connected to the place we are visiting.

Our local partners are committed to supporting local communities by prioritising community-led initiatives and partnering with local businesses, organisations and communities. They are Travelife certified which means they operate with fair labour practices, respect for human rights, equal opportunities, and ethical employment standards. Their supply chain (hotels, transport, guides, etc.) understand and commit to sustainable practices, with sustainability clauses in contracts and regular communication about expectations.

This trip is LGBTQ+ friendly, welcoming travellers of all identities and orientations in a safe, respectful environment. While the nature of the walking itinerary means the holiday is not formally certified as accessible for people with limited mobility, vision, hearing or certain cognitive needs, we do our best to provide information and support to help participants assess whether the trip is suitable for them; please contact us so we can discuss specific needs in detail.
