Responsible Travel

CARBON REDUCTION

This trip is designed around low-carbon travel from the outset. There are no internal flights involved, and the islands on this itinerary are reached by ferry, as there is no possibility of arriving by air. Once the group is in the kayaks, sea kayaking is the form of transport used throughout the journey, rather than a short activity added onto a motor-based trip.

Because the itinerary is built around human-powered travel, the trip avoids the carbon impact and noise of motorised sightseeing and island-hopping by speedboat. Guests are encouraged before arrival to travel as lightly as possible, bring reusable water bottles and avoid single-use plastics during the trip. Vegetarian and vegan meals can both be provided throughout the itinerary with advance notice. Wherever possible, food is sourced locally and seasonally, helping reduce transport impacts while also supporting island suppliers and producers.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This itinerary takes place in a sensitive marine and island environment around Dugi Otok, Telašcica and the Kornati archipelago, so the trip is run in small groups and the route is adapted to sea, weather and landing conditions in order to reduce pressure on fragile coastal areas. Travelling by sea kayak allows guests to move quietly through the landscape with far less noise and disturbance than motor-based excursions, and they are briefed on responsible behaviour around landing sites, swimming spots, marine life and waste throughout the journey.

The trip includes entrance fees to protected areas such as Telašcica Nature Park and Kornati National Park, directly contributing to the management and protection of these landscapes. We follow a clear leave-no-trace approach and use the journey itself to help travellers better understand the ecological value and fragility of these Adriatic island environments. Accommodation is small-scale and locally owned, which fits the low-impact character of the trip and avoids the footprint of larger resort-style tourism.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

This trip is built around small-scale island tourism rather than high-volume resort tourism. Accommodation used on the itinerary is locally owned, and transport, supplies and other services are sourced in Croatia and on the islands wherever possible. This helps keep more of the value of the trip in the local economy and supports smaller businesses in remote island communities.

The itinerary also relies on local ferries, transfers and island-based suppliers as part of the overall journey. Rather than moving quickly through destinations, the trip is designed to spend meaningful time in island environments and support the people who live and work there.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

This trip is guided and operated by local guides with strong first-hand knowledge of the islands, weather and sea conditions. The guides are from the area, which means guests gain a more grounded understanding of the places they travel through while local knowledge and skills remain central to the experience.

We aim to create a respectful and inclusive environment for travellers from different backgrounds, and we do not discriminate on the basis of nationality, gender, race or sexual orientation. Because this is an active expedition-style kayaking trip in a remote island setting, it is not suitable for travellers with limited mobility, but we believe it is important to be transparent about the physical demands of the trip so guests can decide whether it is the right fit for them.
