Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION

This is a cycling holiday — human-powered travel is the core activity for all 4-7 days of cycling. Guests travel under their own power for the vast majority of the trip, generating zero emissions while cycling.

We actively advise guests to consider low-carbon travel options to reach Galway. Ireland is well connected by rail from Dublin, and we provide information on train connections from Dublin Airport to Galway on booking. We encourage guests to consider ferry crossings from the UK as a flight-free option where possible.

Vegetarian meals available.

Luggage transfers are consolidated into a single support vehicle journey each day, minimising road transport emissions across the group.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We operate a Leave No Trace policy and brief all guests on this at the start of their tour. Guests are advised to stay on marked routes, take all waste with them and avoid disturbing local flora and fauna. All accommodation on this tour is in small, locally owned hotels and guesthouses. Several of our partners have reduced single-use plastics and we recommend guests bring reusable water bottles throughout the tour.

We actively support the Galway Greenway Alliance, which campaigns for the conversion of old railway lines into dedicated cycling and walking trails — a direct investment in sustainable transport infrastructure in the west of Ireland.

The routes on this tour pass through some of Ireland's most ecologically important landscapes, including the Connemara uplands and the Aran Islands. We brief guests on the fragile nature of these habitats and encourage responsible behaviour throughout.

LOCAL ECONOMY
Every accommodation on this tour is a small, locally owned hotel, guesthouse or family-run B&B. We have worked with the same local partners for many years, including the Dun Rí guesthouse in Clifden and Sonas B&B in Carna — a family home in the Irish-speaking Gaeltacht region where guests experience genuine Irish language and culture first hand.

We route guests through small villages and towns — Cong, Leenane, Clifden, Westport — where all spending on food, drink and local crafts goes directly into local community economies. We recommend local restaurants and pubs rather than chains at every stop.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
100% of our guides, support staff and local partners are from the local community in the west of Ireland. Our business is based in Galway and all operational staff are local.
Our guide on this tour is a local resident with deep knowledge of Connemara's history, landscape, language and culture. Employing local guides ensures the economic benefit of tourism stays in the community and that guests receive an authentic, locally rooted experience.

We welcome guests of all backgrounds, nationalities and abilities. This tour is LGBTQ+ friendly. We are happy to discuss adaptations for guests with mobility considerations on request.
