Description of Greek Islands family sailing holiday

Greece is made for cruising and its second-largest island, Evia, is waiting for you. Pick a small boat where you’ll be with a group of like-minded families and everyone can make friends. Kids will have a blast jumping off the boat and swimming at every opportunity, whilst you can relax on deck.

Your home for the six nights is a traditional Greek fishing boat called a caique. It’s been carefully converted, with eight berths so that a small group of families can cruise together. You’ll motor along, island-hopping, hiking, and, of course, swimming.

You can enjoy breakfast and lunch on board. In the evenings, moor up and investigate the local taverna to see what’s catch of the day. Captain Thanos has worked on board for many years and cruised the region since he was a child – he can tell you the best dishes on the menu, and the best way to thank the chef.

Evia is the second-largest island in Greece, but relatively unknown outside the country. Just a short hop from Athens, it’s got a great spread of classical ruins, as well as lovely little bays. Cruising along its south-western side, you’ll encounter deserted islands and famous towns like Eretria, once one of the important cities in Classical Greece.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet and people

The caique used on this trip is one of just a handful still to be found in the Aegean and the family that we charter it from relies on us for their living. In addition, the nature of this sailing holiday is such that we visit many different communities on shore where we eat and drink, thus helping to generate an income for them in this quieter, less-touristy part of Greece. Using sails where possible helps save fuel – and reduces pollution, whilst exploration on shore is predominantly on foot – an environmentally friendly way of sightseeing.

Our Tour Leaders are all trained by us in the importance of responsible tourism with guidance given on how they can make a difference. This then percolates down through those they deal with.

In addition to the above, we are continually looking for ways to improve and are proud to be ‘Responsible in everything we do’. Education is key and so all staff, Tour Leaders and partnering suppliers are trained in responsible and sustainable tourism. At our Head Office, we continually strive towards a sustainable and planet-friendly working environment, including having solar panels installed and a company commitment to reducing our plastic usage. As well as this, we have valuable and longstanding partnerships with UK charities Toilet Twinning and Send a Cow, plus many smaller initiatives and projects around the world. We’re members of UK travel industry bodies Tourism Concern and AITO because we believe it’s important to share our knowledge and experience, as well as learn from other operators. As a company we support Cool Earth. Protecting rainforest is one of the most effective actions to tackle climate breakdown. CoolEarth work with indigenous communities empowering them to conserve their forest; keeping CO2 locked in.
