Description of Tailor made family holiday in Vietnam

This 12 day tailor made family holiday in Vietnam hops between four of the country’s most interesting locations, all in the south of the country. Spend time in Indochina’s largest metropolis, Ho Chi Minh City, explore the Mekong Delta and its unique lifestyle, travel to the Central Highlands and discover French built Dalat, and finally relax on the beautiful beaches of Nha Trang.

Highlights include the famous Ben Thanh market in Ho Chi Minh City and Chinatown. Then enjoy the water based culture of the Mekong Delta, with its floating markets and tiny islands where fruit orchards thrive. Further inland and sitting on the edge of a series of plateaux, Dalat is Vietnam’s market garden, blooming with gorgeous flowers, where fruit and vegetables grow in abundance. Here, you can also visit the Crazy House monastery, ride a cable car and see lots of beautiful temples. Nha Trang is a great place to relax at the end of your holiday, and it’s the nearest thing to a traditional seaside resort that Vietnam has. It consists of one long sandy beach, lining a beautiful bay, with lots of islands, hot springs and water sports to enjoy here.

This family tour has been carefully designed to include activities that will keep children of all ages amused. All the activities can be tailored, to suit you and your family, and your interests, too. Vietnam is very child friendly, with lots to do and a warm welcome for junior travellers. You will also have an experienced guide who will be able to bring Vietnam’s rich culture alive and help everyone in the family interact with local people and share in their daily life. We can even arrange a motorbike tour, using experienced guides who are happy to ride with children and teenagers, so that the whole family can enjoy Vietnam in this exciting, unique way.

You can visit this area of Vietnam all year round, so there isn’t really a best time to go, but it’s worth avoiding mid October to late December when the sea in Nha Trang is muddy, because of the rains.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Halong bay and waking up to that amazing views and kayaking in the mist. We all loved the street food tour on motor bike and the cooking classes too.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I think this trip offers it all and depending what you are after you could see the full variety but know that there is a fair amount of travel to get it all in or spend more time in a couple of areas- we are glad we did the former but really needed the full two weeks and we had more time a little longer would have been better.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I really enjoyed all the local tour guides and them each offering a new perspective and all the food places we went to being small local street food mostly. Environmentally we did two internal flights which is less great and wonder if should have been less greedy about covering so much length to prevent it.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Amazing and we have done a review for the tour company too. I felt like it was the most varied of all our holidays from culture to history to exciting activities

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet and people

We have built strong links with local communities, craftspeople, singers and musicians who are maintaining threatened traditions. We offer visitors an opportunity to meet them, thereby valuing their activities and thus helping towards their survival.

For example, at Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta, the local people will welcome an opportunity to perform their traditional Tai Tu music for you. You’ll help raise awareness of the need for conserving the old houses that are significant relics of the Mekong history.

Wherever possible, we contract local indigenous suppliers, assist them to improve the quality of their services and pay them direct rather than through intermediaries. By booking this tour, you’ll be helping us to support Vietnamese service providers, small businesses, boat owners and other poor people in communities in areas such as the Mekong Delta.

Apart from the above, we’re also keen to raise awareness of the need for environmental and cultural conservation among young people. With this in mind, we use local freelance guides with wide experience and knowledge of cultural traditions and ecology, combined with an ability to interpret the milieu in each destination in a way that has meaning for adults and children. For this tour, you’ll have several different guides from various provinces of Vietnam.
