All laundry and personal hygiene products that we use in the guest accommodation have been carefully chosen to adhere to ecological and sustainable standards. We use local refill schemes which cuts down on packaging and supports local business. All domestic waste is managed and recycled and guests are encouraged to re-use towels throughout the week making use of the energy efficient hydro electric storage heaters and good old wind power and sunshine (line drying!). We try to supply kitchen items that encourage re-use and up-cycling and we provide facilities for composting uncooked kitchen waste which gets recycled back onto the gardens.

We are in an area of outstanding natural beauty and we have many guides and books about the local history and the special diversity of the flora and fauna in the area and we encourage our guests to take a look at these during their stay.

This area offers the very best use of the opportunities available to appreciate the local area on foot, by bicycle and by kayak. Bicycles can be hired locally and if an engine really is required, the local bus network can help you explore the nearby attractions of Oban, Inverary, Tarbert and the Mull of Kintyre.

People

Much of the soft furnishings, art and crafts at Karibu Cottage are either up-cycles from much used and cared for items or have been bought from local makers and businesses. We have made it our business to shop locally when we have had to replace items. We ensure that everything in the cottage is of excellent quality but wherever we can we repair and recycle. Nothing gets relegated to the bin unless it's absolutely seen better days. We are very mindful when caring for and planting the garden to use methods and plants that will attract a diverse wildlife and provide food and shelter for our indigenous species like red squirrel, voles, a variety of birds, hedgehogs, slow worms and all those amazing bugs we rarely see but are doing a vital job.
We provide information for our guests about the local area's attractions and things to do and we have contacts for local boat trips, distillery tours, farm visits, falconry displays and cycle hire. We can also recommend places to eat.
