CARBON REDUCTION

Mexche Hotel: We use roof top solar panels and wind energy. We are always happy to provide any type of meal required by the guests. Mexche hotel is always finding the way to avoid waste, this is why every meal is prepared at the exact same time it is requested which avoids any type of food waste. Also we do not use any type of palm or soil oil. Olive oil is the main ingredient we use. To avoid paper or wood waste, we do not manage a physical menu, only a guest written regulation which we covered in plastic.

Hacienda Uxmal: We use electric heaters and energy saving devices include smart thermostats, LED lighting, and advanced power strips, which reduce electricity usage by optimizing heating, cooling, and other energy loads. We offer both choices in our menus, and by request if there is a guest with a selected diet. Most of our food is of regional origin. Most of our fruits and vegetables come from our local & organic harvest that supplies our properties in Chichen Itza and Uxmal. Our hotels join the federal government waste plans and are supervised three times a year to maintain our certifications and renewals of our licenses, which include the use of environmentally friendly practices and biodegradable goods.

Meson del Marques: Organic waste management. We send restaurant waste to the garden for composting. Our buildings are energy efficient; the lights turn on when you enter and turn off when you leave. These measures help us reduce our carbon footprint. We have vegetarian options on our menus at our 3 different restaurants/bars. We have local suppliers from whom we purchase our products. Especially the meat, which we buy from a local supplier who provides us with fresh meat. Similarly, all our departments are looking for ways to automate processes and manage digitalization to reduce paper usage.

Whenever possible, we encourage the use of rail or ground transportation alternatives, particularly for short and medium-distance routes where efficient options are available. Shared transportation is primarily used for arrival and departure transfers. Whenever possible, these transfers are arranged on a shared basis in order to further reduce CO? emissions per person and promote more sustainable travel practices.

Walking tours are included on several days of the trip, particularly when exploring city centres, cultural sites, and natural areas.

We provide guidance on responsible travel practices, such as choosing lower-emission transportation options where possible, minimizing waste, conserving water and energy, and supporting local businesses.

We also encourage mindful packing, the use of reusable items (such as water bottles), and participation in low-impact activities. Through clear communication before and during the trip, we aim to raise awareness and promote more sustainable travel behaviours.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Mexche Hotel: Yes, we do not use Styrofoam or any kind of disposable packaging. Waste is collected by the Cuyo garbage service for separations in the local dumpster. We do not generate any high impact noise pollution as it is a guest resting service. Mexico and this includes el Cuyo, SEMARNAT which is a Mexican government institution that strictly prohibits feeding, keeping, or handling in any way or matter the endemic species of the region. Interfering with any of them is grounds for a fine or penalty. Our Hotel does not interfere in any way as we keep local trees and nature which are home for the endemic birds. El Cuyo is a natural biosphere.

Hacienda Uxmal: We have policies our staff must follow around waste reducing (reduce, reuse,recycle), conserving energy and saving water. We invite our guests to join our saving water and energy policies. Our hotels are family owned and locally operated.

Meson del Marques: At Grupo Mesones, we are committed to installing solar panels on the roof of our establishment, generating added value for our restaurant through responsible consumption, cost savings, and the use of renewable or natural energy. We are also committed to allocating these resources to staff training for equipment maintenance. Our restaurant´s design, with its high ceilings, takes advantage of natural ventilation and reduces energy consumption. The accommodation belongs to a traditional Yucatecan family. It´s part of the Mesones Group, which includes several interconnected businesses, such as our restaurants, bars, and our Hotel Mesón del Marqués in downtown Valladolid.

We primarily work with certified local guides, which allows us to offer an authentic experience to our clients while simultaneously generating direct employment within the region. We promote spending at local establishments such as restaurants, markets, and small businesses by integrating them into our experiences and recommending them to our visitors. We also prioritize sourcing services and supplies from local companies whenever possible.
