Scotland luxury rail holiday

Description of Scotland luxury rail holiday
One of the most luxurious and laid back ways to see Scotland, train holidays that are tailor made to suit your needs take you into the heart of the highlands and islands. For eight days, you will not only be embarking on spectacular train journeys, but also staying at some of the country’s finest hotels, such as the 5* Inverlochy Castle Hotel in Fort William, the terminus of your first train journey – the historic and mesmeric West Highland Line from Glasgow to Fort William. Sit back and relax as you rumble your way through the wild swathes of Rannoch Moor or past Loch Lomond.
Your second day combines rail and sail, taking a Jacobite steam train, through dramatic highland scenery to the port of Mallaig on the west coast, where you pick up the ferry to the Isle of Skye to spend two nights exploring this rugged island, with its mountainous interior and cove rich coastline. With Kinloch Lodge as your base where, after plenty of outdoor exploring and hiking, you can feast on fine Scottish fare in their great restaurant. We offer the services of a local driver and guide during your stay on Skye, to help you explore all that the island has to offer, from Dunvegan and Armadale castles, local galleries to the famous Talisker whisky distillery.
Returning to mainland Scotland by taxi over the Skye bridge to pick up your next train at Kyle of Lochalsh which takes you to Inverness through eighty miles of Scottish splendour. Here you will stay in the equally splendid 5* boutique hotel overlooking the famous waters, which you can explore the next day by boat.
This Scotland luxury train holiday continues travelling first class to Pitlochry, where your luxury guesthouse is in the nearby village of Killiecrankie, with views over the magnificent River Garry gorge. With a free day built into the itinerary, you have time to walk around this National Trust protected area, or perhaps you might like to explore nearby historic gems such as Blair Castle. There are several other castles in the area, and we are happy to arrange a driver guide to assist you on this free day.
Your holiday ends in the capital, Edinburgh, which you will travel to by train from Pitlochry.
