Whenever possible, we work with local suppliers that participate in Costa Rica's Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST) programme, administered by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT). The programme assesses participating tourism businesses against criteria relating to areas such as environmental management, social responsibility and cultural practices. Where we use CST-certified suppliers, their participation provides an independently assessed framework for the tourism practices described by the programme.

Our local team in Costa Rica has achieved the highest level of certification under a national carbon-neutrality programme administered by Costa Rica’s Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). Their environmental initiatives include measures relating to energy efficiency, water conservation and waste management. They were also an early participant in the 'Stop Animal Selfies' campaign also led by MINAE., which raises awareness of the potential welfare and safety issues associated with taking photographs or selfies with wild animals and encourages visitors to observe wildlife without handling or posing with animals.

As an in depth specialist tour operator to Costa Rica, we take a considered approach to the social, environmental and economic impacts of the holidays we design. To us, this means much more than a simple donation to a charity for each client. We try to build long and constructive involvements with local guides, wildlife lodges and hotels, in the course of which we, and our clients, can make lasting wide-ranging contributions to the wonderful places and people we engage with. In this itinerary we have selected several hotels and lodges whose documented practices align with this approach.
