Planet
As a company we are committed to our B-Corp status and our itineraries reflect this.On day 6 you will stop off at Udawalawe Elephant Sanctuary - an experience which focusses on the conservation of these gentle giants. Your visit here will go back to the conservation efforts. You will also stay at Amba Tea Estate - an organic farm-stay social enterprise which are committed to protecting the environment - with self-grown food, organic compost and their very own rescued cows. Here you can enjoy tea and coffee experience where you will visit an organic coffee farm.
We are also committed to tackling overtourism. This itinerary includes Block 5 - a quieter section of Yala National Park offering a more secluded safari experience than some of the counterparts. By directing travellers to different parts of a country, we can help overtourism in some of the busier regions which ultimately help the environment.
Finally this itinerary includes the beautiful Tekanda Lodge in Ahangama on day two. It is built out of natural, local materials and surrounded by organic tea and coconut plantations.
People
This itinerary includes a number of community-first experiences. Firstly you will have a local chauffeur guide and tips for him are included within the price. We have worked with our local partners in Sri Lanka for a number of years and are committed to supporting and employing people from the region.Staying at Amba Tea Estate is also key to helping the local communities. It supports over 100 local families, employing them in various positions across the farmland. The staff love to share stories and experiences with visitors and will show you around the tea plantation and factory. Your food will be prepared by staff in your house and eaten communally.
This itinerary also includes a section of the Pekoe Trail. Your specialist guide with take you on this scenic route giving you the opportunity to meet local people along the way and learn about the local way of life.
Staying at Tekanda Lodge also means you are supporting the associated Tekanda Foundation which provides educational and skill development courses to children and adults in its rural vicinity. The thriving Tekanda Girls Cricket Academy helps local girls access the country’s favourite sport.
