Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
We choose a mean of transport with a very low impact on environment, as we are associated with the “Umbria Green Card”, a project that comes from the idea of enhancing ecologically- friendly tourism in Umbria. We choose our suppliers among the ones that sustain the environment. For example, MonteVibiano farm has been awarded with the prestigious "Premio Impresa Ambiente" award, "the highest recognition for Italian private and public companies that have distinguished themselves in the interests of Sustainable Development, Environmental Issues and Social Responsibility". It was the first farm in Italy to receive the prestigious reward and certification of DNV ISO 14064, to have reached the zero emission of CO2, using solar and wind power . We sustain them also by buying their precious wine for our guests. We choose accommodations among local small B&B , hotel that are engaged in recycling waste and agritourism that also have organic or integrated cultivations.
We work with a local NGO, TAMAT, that is working on projects to develop sustainable mobility (H2power project) and actively works in the schools to support sustainable development and raise awareness about it among students and citizens.
People
We give information to our guest to visit some local art and crafts workshops that maintains alive old techniques: in Perugia, a local workshop that still uses characteristic ancient technique to produce stained glasses and a woven fabrics Atelier, producing with ancient techniques, in Bevagna local workshops and labs of the Gaite’s event. We give information to our guests on where to visit and buy souvenirs and presents from a social cooperative, RELEGART, that employ people with physical and psychological disabilities, to produce home ware in leather and paper. We also provide information on local restaurants and trattorie where it is possible to enjoy tasty dishes made with local products and traditional recipes and to local events and markets to support local associations and small producers.
We give to our clients a list of farmers’ markets: true open air food shops from the producer to the consumer, vegetables organically grown and “zero kilometers” far. Buying and tasting their products is a way to support small local producers that otherwise risk to disappear. Farmers’ markets in Umbria are part of a project called “ Campagna Amica” that identifies and safeguards Italian and certified farmers’ products. In these markets you can find women producing buffalo mozzarella and cheeses, farmers with fresh fruit and vegetables (there is also a cooperative that sells products grown in a jail by prisoners), producing and selling typical flours and beans and so on. We support all of them buying their products and organizing, when possible, tasting of their products.
