Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
The Meekong princess are the first cruise ships not to use plastic on board. Each passenger receives their own metal water bottle which they refill at filling stations in the lobbies of the ship. We have local farmers providing hollow reeds for drinking straws which provide income opportunities for farming families and have replaced plastic straws. We operate a food waste management program to ensure no waste is placed in the river. No plastic bags are used or are available on the ship. We are totally committed to protecting the environment in which we cruise. We are one of the first cruise ship not to use plastic on board. Each passenger receives their own metal water bottle which they refill at filling stations in the lobbies of the ship. We have local farmers providing hollow reeds for drinking straws which provide income opportunities for farming families and have replaced plastic straws. We also operate a food waste management program to ensure no waste is ever placed in the river. No plastic bags are used or are available on the ship. We are understandably totally committed to protecting the environment in which we cruise. The river boats crew are very aware of their responsibilities to the local environment, as they rely completely on this environment for the success of these cruises. They endeavour to minimise any detrimental effects of the cruise while maximising the benefits.
People
During the Meekong Princess river cruise we visit several areas that are rarely, if ever, visited by other tourists, and this provides a little income to these communities. We are organised and commit funding every year to volunteer dental teams travelling to remote parts of Asia to repair the teeth of children who have never had the opportunity to see a dentist before. We also run education evenings for the parents, in these villages, to teach the importance of dental hygiene and for them not to allow their children to start chewing “Beatle Nut.” We provide tooth brushes and toothpaste for all the children in these villages. Our last dental trip took place in January/February 2023 when we took a team of 18 dentists and hygienists to a remote village in Myanmar. We are totally committed to protecting the environment in which the local residents live & in which we cruise.Popular similar holidays
