The beautiful geography.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Villages are more developed than I thought....mixed in with traditional. Homestays are like nice, humble hotel cabins, not in someone's actual home,
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
I think it benefitted local people economically, but the amount of plastic waste produced by tourism (water bottles esp) is very visible in the landscape!
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

This trekking journey explores the landscapes, rice terraces and villages around Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Guests are encouraged to minimise waste, carry their rubbish with them and dispose of it in appropriate bins. Reusable trekking equipment is provided where possible and can be used on future trips.The route passes through rural villages and quieter areas away from major roads, offering opportunities to experience local landscapes and daily life.
In Hieu Village, we work with a locally operated lodge that uses locally available materials, including bamboo for elements such as beds, roofs and lamps. Some decorative items are made from reused bamboo by local craftspeople.
The lodge also works with local suppliers where possible, and meals feature locally sourced ingredients and regional dishes.
People
We work with a locally operated lodge in Hieu Village, where most employees are from the surrounding community. This provides local employment and encourages cooperation between the lodge, local residents and suppliers.The lodge also shares practical information with staff about reducing waste and using resources responsibly in daily operations.
On the first day, guests visit Poom Coom Village in Mai Chau and take a short walk to meet members of the local Thai community. In Pu Luong, guests can observe local activities in the morning and explore rice terraces, valleys and villages.
The trek continues to Hieu Village, where guests can walk around the village, interact with local residents and visit the nearby waterfall.
