Description of Ecuador ecolodge, Napo Wildlife Centre
This four-day Ecuadorian lodge holiday is based at the Napo Wildlife Center in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The lodge is located within Yasuní National Park, an area of tropical rainforest known for its high levels of biodiversity. Its location provides opportunities for wildlife observation and guided activities in the surrounding rainforest.
The lodge is situated beside Anangucocha Lake, within the ancestral territory of the Kichwa Añangu people. The property was developed in line with the regulations applying to tourism within the national park. The Napo Wildlife Center is also associated with community-based tourism and conservation activities involving the Kichwa Añangu community.
You will stay in one of ten private bungalows, with a view of the lake and rainforest from your own porch. As well as relaxing in the heart of this extraordinarily beautiful landscape, you will have a chance to go on treks with local naturalist guides to take in the prolific wildlife. This includes eleven different species of primate, lizards, tortoises and over five hundred species of birds. Bird watchers will revel in the proliferation of toucans, macaws, parrots and hummingbirds and we get a chance to visit some accessible parrot clay licks. More elusive mammals here include jaguar and puma.

The lodge is located beside Anangucocha Lake, within the ancestral lands of the Kichwa Añangu community. It was developed with the involvement of EcoEcuador, a non-profit organisation focused on conservation in Ecuador.Wastewater from the lodge is treated before being discharged, with the system intended to reduce impacts on the surrounding wetlands. Solid waste is minimised where possible. Organic materials suitable for composting are composted, while waste that can be safely burned or buried is treated accordingly. Remaining waste is transported to designated landfill sites. Electricity for the lodge is supplied through a combination of solar panels and diesel generators.
People
Revenue from the lodge provides financial benefits to the Kichwa Añangu community, supporting its involvement in conservation and land management. Community members participate in the management and protection of more than 52,000 acres within Yasuní National Park and are involved in the operation of the lodge.The community's conservation activities include efforts to reduce pressures on the surrounding forest, including logging, commercial hunting and oil extraction. Through its involvement in tourism and conservation, the lodge provides an economic activity linked to the protection and management of the community's ancestral territory.
