Description of Ecuador ecolodge, Napo Wildlife Centre

This Ecuador ecolodge holiday is a four day break at the exquisite environs of the Napo Wildlife Center. Open all year round, this ecolodge is wholly committed to conservation of the Amazon Rainforest, and is part of a much larger project working within Yasuni National Park. This is the largest section of tropical rainforest in Ecuador, and so the ecolodge is a fitting place to stay for not only wildlife watchers, but those committed to conservation. Indeed, it is the only lodge within the park boundaries.

The ecolodge is also located beside Anangucocha Lake, and is an important ancient site as it is the ancestral lands of the Anangu Quichua people. It was constructed following strict national park eco rules and regulations, working hand in hand with EcoEcuador, a non-profit conservation organisation.

You will be staying in one of ten private bungalows, with a view of the lake and rainforest from your own porch. As well as relaxing in the heart of this extraordinarily beautiful landscape, you will have a chance to go on treks with local naturalist guides to take in the prolific wildlife. This includes eleven different species of primate, lizards, tortoises and over five hundred species of birds. Bird watchers will revel in the proliferation of toucans, macaws, parrots and hummingbirds and we get a chance to visit some accessible parrot clay licks. More elusive mammals here include jaguar and puma.

As this is a tailor made trip, do chat to us about any other activities you might be interested in trying out, such as mountain biking, hiking or family adventures. We will be more than happy to extend your trip to Napa to take in other Ecuadorian natural wonders. Some of our guests include an extension to the Galapagos Islands, which we are also very happy to organise for you.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

The Lodge is located by the Anangucocha lake, within the ancestral lands of the Anangu Quichua community and was built in conjunction with EcoEcuador. EcoEcuador is a non-profit organization dedicated to conservation efforts in Ecuador.

The lodge has an environmentally sustainable sewage system and all waste water is treated to the highest standard in order to keep the swamps clean. Rubbish is kept to a minimum and they compost what they can, burn and bury what is safe to burn, and pack out the remainder to designated landfills. Solar panels and diesel generators provide power.

People

The Anangu Quichua community receives the profits from the lodge, which allows them to be active in conservation and to work towards preventing logging, market hunting, and oil extraction all of which are actively destroying local forests. The members of the community are active participants in the conservation and management of over 52,000 acres within the Yasunì National Park as well as partners in the lodge.
