1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Thanks to AJ, Lesia and the team for a great holiday and a wonderful experience. We trekked to Everest Base Camp and stopped along the way to climb Lobouche East Peak.

Everything was well organised and to the highest quality and worked like clockwork. Our hotels in Kathmandu were excellent, quiet, and out the way but
also accessible to all the main attractions. All the guides that helped us when out and about were knowledgeable and also had very good English.
The trekking and climbing a peak were fantastic again everything went smoothly, and the experience of the guide and porters were fantastic. Our climbing guide was beyond brilliant, massively experienced and super confident and assured. This made reaching the peak much more enjoyable as you knew you were in safe hands.
We had built a number of days into our trekking schedule, in case of bad weather, which was not needed. This meant we had more time at the end of our trip than expected. This is when the team really stepped up, and at short notice arranged for us to visit the game reserve and undertake a number of cultural activities. These were organised at short notice, but this did not impact on the quality or attention to detail.
I talked to AJ, the owner about the money that they use for community / charitable projects, these were hugely inspiring and the team clearly believe in
supporting Nepal and using every trip to give back.
The Swotah team were fantastic throughout our trip and did everything from start to finish to make sure it was a success. Thanks for all your help.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

This trek is a visit card of the Himalayas and our concern is to keep it clean. No matter what style you are travelling - do not litter is a must and avoid bringing unnecessary plastic bags or individually packed snacks.

Sagarmatha National Park is rich in pure spring water. Our guides will help you to refill your BPA-free bottles with water instead of buying bottled mineral water in plastic. Save some money and save wildlife and nature. We demand to think about mountains as your own home and take care of them.

The only source to have energy in this region - is solar panels. All tea houses, lodges and guest houses use only them as it is the best solution. You can bring your own solar panel to charge your gadgets while trekking. Fortunately, sunny weather is very common during the season.

It is a walking/trekking tour which doesn't include driving. We'll have a 35mins flight there and back to avoid a 2-day bus ride which we believe compromises a lot for the environment.
On some parts of the trek, there are chances to meet wild animals. Do not feed them with food, do not approach them and don't throw anything into them, and don't make any sounds to attract their attention. Remember - they are at home and we are their guests. Be respectful to them.

At this altitude and path chances to meet wild animals are low, but chances to observe birds are very high so please don't try to bring their attention by throwing stones or whistling. However don't leave any food, don't feed wild animals or stray dogs, and if meet yaks or deers who are living in this region, don't approach them and give them the way.

On our way, we'll meet quite a big amount of yaks. In general, they are very peaceful animals, but to be on the safe side, please give them the way and take a side closer to the walls, mountains or trees, don't stand on the cliff or ridges. Do not take any selfies and don't ride yaks as, like all animals, these majestic creatures can hurt you if they feel in danger. Same, we will meet wild buffalos at higher altitudes. Don't come close and don't tease them.

People

We employ local guides from all over the country and have a team of experts with crucial knowledge of each trail. Our tour leaders in the city are cultural buffs and experts in customs and traditions. We offer them good working conditions: salary, insurance, equipment, meals and accommodation. Once in a few years, we provide them with special guide training where they can improve and share their knowledge. Also, we encourage them to learn new languages except for English so that they could be in higher demand and had more job opportunities.

A balance between culture, nature, locals and adventurers is our core. For this, we keep our groups small and use only local staff. Nepali people are still very conservative and before travelling to our country we recommend you to do research on do's and don'ts, dress modestly, greet locals on your way, learn a bit of the Nepali language, have tea with locals, and teach them your language.

During the tour, we'll stay at locally-owned hotels and teahouses, homestays where possible, and we'll eat in authentic restaurants which are using organic food. For example such places as Hotel Manaslu, The Summit, and Hotel Shanker.
Nepalese cuisine is very balanced for those who go trekking so on our menu we use dishes with seasonal vegetables and fruits that were grown by locals on the farms.
