CARBON REDUCTION

Minimal motorized vehicles are used on this tour. Most days our traversing over the Naga Hills is human powered. Days 2-7 are trekking, and days 2-6 the car is not scheduled to be used. This tour does not include any domestic flights.

Vegetarian food is available every day. Pork and chicken can be avoided each day. All food is locally-sourced from the Naga villages and therefore is seasonal too. The majority of the food prepared on this tour will be home-cooked and prepared by our hosts in the homestay.


ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE

Most of these accommodations are homestays. Nagaland outlawed hunting several years ago and have since directed their attention towards preserving their forests and wild spaces. Khonoma is in a fact a "green village", priding itself on waste reduction and preservation of its natural environment.

Our local guides are also environmentalists and carry out awareness raising projects in their home villages and Kohima.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

All homestays (x3) and the hotel in Kohima (x1) are locally owned by people of the Naga tribes.

Furthermore, all our guides are local. There is one throughout guide (normally from the Angami tribe of Khonoma or Kohima) and one village guide (from the specific village and often of a different guide). Car drivers are normally from the neighbouring state of Assam.


EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

100% of our partners are from India itself. All but the drivers from the local Naga communities.

We pay our workers above the minimum wage and insist that our partners do likewise.

Within our Employment Handbook we have a workplace diversity strategy that nurtures equal employment which does not allow discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation or nationality. We hire our local guides based on their merit and experience. Although the majority of the Naga guides we work with are men, we welcome and encourage working with female Naga guides.

This trip is LGBTQ+ friendly. Although, as a socially conservative region, discretion is advised to both heterosexual and homosexual couples when on tour.
