Travel guides

Morocco
Our Morocco travel guide whisks you into a rainbow of raucous colours and enlightening Islamic culture.
Solo travel
Responsible Travel was built out of a love of solo travel, and we want to share the joy of it with you.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction

The average carbon footprint on this tour is 344Kg of CO2e per person. Whilst there is no doubt we cover a lot of ground in nine days, we have reduced the driving distance by over 20% compared to other nine day Morocco tours which results in 50Kg CO2e less consumption per person. In addition we decided against using internal flights on this trip to keep the carbon footprint lower.
Our riad in Marrakech uses solar energy. We are also working with the other guesthouses and hotels used on the tour to encourage a great proportion of their power supplies to come from solar, as this is a commodity in abundant supply in Morocco.
As a travel company we are acutely aware of our impact on the environment. All of our tours display a carbon footprint, and we strive to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our tours and embracing low-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which offer the added benefit of getting a closer connection with the destination and local community.

Environment and Wildlife

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.

Local Economy

Key to our ethos is to ensure that we are an economic benefit to the communities we visit. By using locally owned hotels and transport, eating in a variety of local restaurants and employing local guides in the Imperial cities, we spread the economic benefit to as wide a circle as possible and that money stays in country. It is also a great way to get closer to the local culture.
We don't use international chain hotels on this trip, all of the hotels, guesthouses and camps are small scale and employ local staff. We also use local guides in addition to our tour leaders at all the main sites.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity

We have a very longstanding partnership with our agent in Morocco who are from the remote Bouguemez valley region in the Atlas Mountains. Over the decades we have worked with them a significant number of local inhabitants of the valley have been put through comprehensive guide training, which has given them invaluable skills such as English language, mountain leader training and wide travel and tourism transferable skills. The Bouguemez Valley is a deprived area with little opportunities outside of subsistence agriculture, the employment opportunities offered though our local agent has lifted whole families out of relative poverty, providing lifetime skills and opportunities.
