Carbon Reduction
We have designed the itinerary to minimize carbon use. Instead of flying between Kumasi and Mole National Park we drive instead, not only do this result in a significantly lower carbon footprint, it also allows us to make stops along the way to further explore the north of the country.
The lodges that we use in Bonkro and Ankasa both use solar power for their electricity generation. Both lodges also pride themselves in sourcing their food from local suppliers.
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

Environment and Wildlife
Our local partner has acquired land for a reforestation project, they are in the process of planting 75,000 indigenous trees, which will reconnect the villages to the forest we are protecting. In addition they have also supported the local faming community by providing finance and training to start honey production, snail farming (a local delicacy) and bush meat farming , which helps prevent local hunting in the forest killing endangered animals.
Our local partner also has a policy of not using any plastic bags in their office or on tours; when purchasing items, and food for trips, we use reusable fabric bags. Any plastic bottles we do generate we give to remote communities who re-use them as storage containers. At our project sites and in areas we visit we advise local communities on how to reduce their plastic waste and use more organic materials instead of plastic when possible.
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth. We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
In addition to this our local partner company plants three indigenous forest tree species for every person that travels with us.

People

Local Economy
The trip is packed full of experiences where we directly support local businesses. We visit the fantasy coffin workshop in Accra (on day 2), a craft village in Aburi (on day 3), a Kente cloth manufacturer near Kumasi (on day 4), a village market in Mole National Park (on day 7) and two days in a community homestay including a visit to the local representative for Kuapa Kokoo Cooperative which is a Fairtrade organisation that ensures its members, who are cocoa farmers, get a good price for the cocoa they grow (on days 9 and 10). We also support and promote local restaurants and shops which source services locally.
All our drivers and guides on this trip are local and are direct employees rather than freelance contractors. As such, they receive additional workplace benefits such as pension contributions and healthcare. Staff are paid far above the minimum wage and are able to benefit from a company profit sharing scheme.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity
All the guides (including tour leaders, assistant guides and drivers) are from Ghana. Another ongoing project provides support to the youth community with free training offered in tailoring, hairdressing, catering, carpentry, construction and auto-mechanics and our local partner offers free reading and writing lessons to the communities we stay in to further equip them in life.

We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
