Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

All of our activities on this tour take place within the Baja region itself, and we group our transfers to keep transit to a minimum. By keeping everything local and combining journeys wherever we can, we cut down on unnecessary miles and the emissions that come with them. We also ask our guests to play their part. Before and during the trip, we encourage travellers to choose carbon-neutral options where possible and to think carefully about any additional transportation they take on, so that together we can keep the footprint of this experience as light as it can be.

Most of the trip is spent on a liveaboard vessel where emissions are kept as low as possible.

Dietary needs can be catered for.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Our whale watching guidelines have been developed hand in hand with local communities and commercial operators, built around a simple principle: minimal disturbance, never chasing or harassing the whales we're so lucky to encounter. We follow all local guidelines regarding marine life and ensure our guests and guides conduct themselves respectfully around wildlife at all times.

We donate to a range of sustainability and conservation organisations across the different destinations we operate in, supporting local efforts to protect the environments our trips depend on.

We work hard to cut down on waste and plastic throughout the trip. We encourage and brief guests to be mindful of plastic use, to bring their own reusable water bottles, and to avoid single-use plastics throughout the trip; no plastic straws or disposable cutlery are used on board, and our itineraries are entirely paper-free and digital. We also ask guests to be mindful of water and energy use at accommodations - reusing towels, only requesting fresh linens when needed, and turning off lights when they're not in use.

Conservation isn't a one-off talk - it's woven throughout the trip. We take every opportunity to educate our guests on the importance of marine and wildlife conservation and what it takes to preserve Baja's environment for the future. We choose to work closely with local suppliers who share our environmental values. We share our mission statement with them directly, so that everyone involved in this tour - not just us - is pulling in the same direction to protect Baja.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Every pre- and post-trip accommodation booked in Cabo is with locally owned hotels and guesthouses, not international chains, a deliberate choice so guest money stays with local families and small businesses rather than a corporate head office elsewhere.

The liveaboard vessel used for the whale swimming tour is Mexico-based and operates year-round in Mexican waters, working within the same coastal communities guests are asked to respect. Full ownership structure of the vessel company isn't something we can verify or claim in detail, but what we can confirm firsthand each season is that the boat is crewed by local hires, provisioned locally, and the money it generates circulates through Baja communities rather than leaving the region.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Nearly all staff and crew, on land and water, are Mexican nationals hired from the local community, people who grew up around this coastline, know these waters, and depend on tourism done right to support their families. Staff are paid at least minimum wage across the board, and in most roles, above it.

The trip is open to anyone; no restrictions based on background. The only physical requirement is the ability to get in and out of the boat (some clambering/balance on ladders and platforms). Guests across a wide range of ages and physical abilities have joined successfully.

Honest disclosure: this trip is not well suited to wheelchair users, due to narrow gangways, ladders, and no ramps for boat access. We state this plainly rather than glossing over it, and guests with specific mobility questions are welcome to talk it through before booking.

The operation is LGBTQ+ friendly and all guests are welcome aboard.
