Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

Our tours are designed to minimize environmental impact through low-emission, human-powered travel. Walking and hiking are at the core of every experience — with most trips lasting 1 to 3 days, and some extending into longer alpine treks. We deliberately avoid any motorized transport during hikes, encouraging a slower, more conscious way of exploring nature.

To further reduce carbon emissions, we encourage guests to use Switzerland’s excellent public transportation system. All meeting points are selected for easy access via train or bus (e.g., SBB and PostAuto). We do not operate private shuttles or vans and promote the use of Swiss Rail Passes to make sustainable travel even easier.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

For overnight stays, we choose small, locally run accommodations like mountain huts, farm stays, or simple guesthouses — many with minimal infrastructure and a low environmental footprint. These places often share facilities, limit plastic use, practice recycling, and in some cases, operate off-grid or use solar energy. We intentionally avoid luxury or large-scale hotels.

Each participant receives a short environmental guide before their trip, reminding them to:

Stay on designated trails
Avoid disturbing wildlife or creating noise
Leave no trace, including food scraps
Bring reusable items and reduce plastic
Respect local plant life, especially fragile alpine flowers

LOCAL ECONOMY

We exclusively partner with locally owned accommodations — no hotel chains. For overnight stays, we select family-operated guesthouses, alpine huts, or even barns with hay bedding, offering a genuine Swiss mountain experience. Many of these places are historic and run by families who have lived in the region for generations.

A standout experience includes sleeping on hay in mountain farms or staying in simple shepherd shelters used during seasonal grazing.

We work closely with small mountain lift operators, independent producers, and — when needed — certified local guides. Guests are invited to discover village cheese cellars, explore local craft markets (like those in Disentis or Saanen), and purchase directly from farmers, especially during traditional events like Alpabzug and Alpaufzug.

We also promote the use of regional trains and postbuses, keeping travel spending within the local economy and supporting community infrastructure.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Our entire team is based in Switzerland. Whenever we need support — whether guides, hosts, or transport — we hire directly from the regions where our trips take place, such as Valais, Graubünden, or Central Switzerland. We avoid external agencies or outsourcing abroad.

We prioritize partnerships with women-led initiatives and older farmers who maintain traditional skills and heritage.

We also make space for inclusion: offering discounted or free trips to low-income migrants and students in Switzerland, and occasionally organizing community hikes open to all, regardless of income.

Our trips are safe and welcoming for LGBTQ+ participants, and open to anyone who values respect, nature, and connection.
