Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

The Marvelous Santa Cruz & Island Hopping tour avoids the use of internal flights by focusing exclusively on Santa Cruz Island and nearby marine destinations reachable by motor yacht. Once in the Galápagos, all transfers are conducted using local ground transportation and yacht navigation, reducing reliance on carbon-intensive inter-island flights.

The itinerary includes several walking-based activities, such as visits to Tortuga Bay, natural lava tunnels, and the Charles Darwin Research Station, encouraging human-powered exploration and helping reduce the tour’s carbon footprint.

Two full days of the program involve exploration by motor yacht, during which meals are prepared and served onboard. On other days, meals are provided at local accommodations in Puerto Ayora, partially supporting Santa Cruz’s local supply systems.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The tour includes guided visits to protected areas managed by the Galápagos National Park, such as Los Tuneles, Concha Perla, La Lobería, and Tortuga Bay. All excursions are conducted in accordance with the park’s strict environmental regulations, which help safeguard ecosystems and limit visitor impact.

Guests also visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, where they gain insight into local conservation initiatives, including the protection of endemic species like the Galápagos giant tortoise.

Excursions are led by certified naturalist guides, who are licensed by the Galápagos National Park Directorate and ensure full compliance with regulations regarding waste management, trail use, and wildlife interaction.

All travelers pay the Galápagos National Park entrance fee, which directly supports ongoing conservation, restoration, and management efforts throughout the islands.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

All services provided during the itinerary, accommodation, ground transport, yacht navigation, excursions, guiding, and meals, are sourced from local operators based on Santa Cruz Island, helping to sustain the island’s economy and strengthen community-based tourism.

Although the program follows a scheduled itinerary without designated free time, the use of locally owned services ensures that tourism revenue stays within the Galápagos Islands and directly benefits the communities involved.

Visits to institutions like the Charles Darwin Research Station also support local scientific and conservation staff whose work depends on responsible tourism.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

The program is delivered by a team of Ecuadorian professionals, including licensed Galápagos naturalist guides, yacht crew, and support personnel. Most of these individuals are Galapagueños, born and raised in the islands, which contributes to the creation and long-term maintenance of local employment opportunities.

Naturalist guides are accredited by the Galápagos National Park Directorate, which requires local residents and specialized training in environmental education, visitor safety, and ecological interpretation.

Although the natural terrain and logistics of the islands may not be fully accessible to all travelers, certain adjustments can be made on request, depending on availability and site conditions.

The tour is inclusive and welcoming to all travelers, regardless of background or identity, although no specific accessibility or diversity policies are detailed in the published program.
