Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

All of our trips prioritize human-powered movement, mainly walking and hiking. Most tours last 1–3 days, with some longer alpine treks. We deliberately avoid motorized transport during the hiking experience, promoting slow travel and a deeper connection with nature.

We strongly encourage participants to arrive by train or local bus, which are widely available and highly efficient in Switzerland. Meeting points are always chosen for easy access via public transport (SBB trains, PostAuto buses). We do not use private cars or vans to shuttle groups, and we recommend Swiss Rail Passes to further reduce emissions.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

For overnight stays, we favor small, locally-run guesthouses or mountain huts — often with minimal infrastructure and a low environmental footprint. Many use shared facilities, minimize plastic, recycle, and some are even off-grid or partially solar-powered. We avoid large or luxury hotels whenever possible.

Before each trip, we provide a short guide encouraging guests to:

Stay on marked trails

Avoid noise and disturbing wildlife

Leave no trace, including food waste

Minimize plastic and bring reusable items

Respect flora, especially delicate alpine flowers

LOCAL ECONOMY

All of our accommodations are 100% locally owned — we avoid hotel chains entirely. When overnight stays are included, we choose family-run guesthouses, traditional alpine huts, or even barns (with hay sleeping) to offer a truly authentic Swiss experience. Many of these are historic buildings, passed down through generations and managed by locals who live in the area.

Some unique experiences include sleeping in hay at mountain farms or staying in simple alpine shelters used by shepherds during transhumance.

We work directly with local mountain lift companies, small-scale producers, and occasionally local alpine guides when conditions require. Guests are encouraged to explore village cheese cellars, craft markets (like in Disentis or Saanen), and buy directly from farmers — especially during Alpabzug or Alpaufzug events.

We also support independent rail and PostAuto travel, directing money toward local infrastructure and avoiding large-scale transport operators.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

All of our collaborators are based in Switzerland. When we need support — mountain guides, drivers, or hosts — we hire locals from the specific regions we operate in, such as Graubünden, Valais, or Central Switzerland. We do not outsource operations to non-local or non-Swiss agents.

Though our project is still small, we prioritize collaborating with women-led businesses (farm stays, craft producers) and older farmers who maintain traditional practices.

We also offer free or reduced-price trips to low-income migrants or students in Switzerland, and occasionally organize community hikes where participation is based on interest, not financial means.

All our trips are LGBTQ+ friendly and safe, focused on nature, connection, and respect. Every participant is welcome, as long as they share these values.
