1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
Sitting in nature, in front of beautiful views waiting for wildlife to appear. Watching it when it came: golden eagles performing a courtship ritual, wolves returning to their den at night, wild boar emerging just before dawn.
I have to shout out to our guide, Filippo, who not only knew the answer to all our questions and appeared to know the English, Italian and Latin name for every single bird or plant we asked about, but also showed incredible patience, flexibility and kindness with our group, and had an appreciation for the area that was infectious. We all felt very supported and looked after.
I also loved being able to use equipment like a thermal scope and a long-lens camera to see wildlife.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Enjoy the meditative serenity of being in a beautiful environment, with a guide who knows literally everything about the area and its nature.
If you’re travelling in October: layers, layers, layers. It was beautifully warm on our hikes, then below freezing before dawn when we were trekking with headtorches to wildlife-watching viewpoints.
The company kindly provided binoculars and headtorches. Don’t expect wildlife to come close.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Yes – our guide was local, having returned to the area after his academic career and balanced nature guiding with working in conservation for Rewilding Apennines. He set an example for how to act in nature, from keeping to trails and keeping our distance from wildlife, to slow and considerate driving.
The company partner with and work alongside local NGOs, and we heard about this on our tour. Great to hear about the conservation work that is ongoing in the area.
Our hotel was locally owned and served seasonal, local dishes – delicious pumpkin tortelli, lovely soups and excellent vegetarian options. We also patronised local restaurants and businesses in the town. We were given public transport details to make our arrangements for getting to the region – I took the bus.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Am already scheming about returning for a spring trip.

CARBON REDUCTIONWe believe in keeping our experiences intimate and authentic, which is why we work exclusively with small groups. This approach allows participants to connect more deeply with nature, fully appreciate the importance of biodiversity, and feel inspired to act responsibly and respectfully toward the environment.
To support low-impact travel, we provide rail station pick-up services for international groups and strongly encourage guests to reach the nearest train station whenever possible. From there, our team organizes efficient transfers to the destination. We use vehicles that match the group size—such as shared minivans—to optimize logistics and reduce CO2 emissions. This model not only minimizes our environmental footprint but also supports a more sustainable way of experiencing the Central Apennines.
Accommodation is carefully arranged by our tour leaders in small, charming, family-run hotels, typically in shared double rooms. Whenever possible, we prioritize establishments that protect the landscape, celebrate local architecture, and preserve traditional customs and craftsmanship.
ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE
We operates in the heart of the Central Apennines, a region renowned for its remarkably well-preserved natural environments. Our work is driven by a commitment to protecting these delicate ecosystems and actively contributing to the conservation of the rich biodiversity that defines them.
We believe in keeping our experiences intimate and authentic, which is why we work exclusively with small groups. Our preferred partners adopt practices such as using renewable energy, reducing water consumption, and integrating sustainability into their daily operations. By choosing small family-owned accommodations, we contribute directly to the local economy and help maintain the authenticity of the communities we visit.
Lunches are not included. Each morning, guests can purchase packed lunches from the guesthouse or from local shops and bakeries to take with them on the day's hike. In the evening, you’ll enjoy traditional Italian dishes such as maccheroni alla chitarra (a special type of handmade spaghetti), hearty soups made with orapi (wild spinach) and beans, and a variety of local dairy products. The region’s long-standing sheep-farming culture is evident in cheeses like pecorino, ricotta, caciocavallo, and the rare goat’s cheese marzolina.
We are happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements or allergies—please remember to inform us of any specific needs at the time of booking so we can prepare accordingly.
People
LOCAL ECONOMYA core part of our mission is supporting the local economy. We collaborate closely with local guides, small businesses, restaurants, and accommodation providers, helping to strengthen a sustainable micro-economy that benefits the entire community. This approach not only enriches our guests’ experience with authentic, place-based knowledge, but also ensures that the value generated by our activities remains within the region. All guides and partners involved in our tours are local, and more than 50% of our team members are women, reflecting our ongoing effort to build a more inclusive and balanced tourism sector.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY
Our commitment extends beyond socio-economic sustainability. We maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with the authorities managing Protected Areas, ensuring full compliance with their regulations and contributing to responsible nature-based tourism. We also work alongside conservation NGOs such as Io non ho paura del Lupo, supporting initiatives dedicated to improving coexistence between wildlife and local communities. Through educational activities, thematic events, and conservation projects focused on the Italian wolf, we help raise awareness of the species’ ecological importance and promote a culture of coexistence.
Through this integrated approach, we are not just an outdoor experience provider: it is a connector between territory, conservation, and community. We promote a responsible tourism model that generates tangible value, supports local livelihoods, and fosters a deeper understanding of the natural world—today and for future generations.
