We believe in keeping our experiences intimate and authentic, which is why we work exclusively with small groups. This approach allows participants to connect more deeply with nature, fully appreciate the importance of biodiversity, and feel inspired to act responsibly and respectfully toward the environment.

To support low-impact travel, we provide rail station pick-up services for international groups and strongly encourage guests to reach the nearest train station whenever possible. From there, our team organizes efficient transfers to the destination. We use vehicles that match the group size—such as shared minivans—to optimize logistics and reduce CO2 emissions. This model not only minimizes our environmental footprint but also supports a more sustainable way of experiencing the Central Apennines.

Accommodation is carefully arranged by our tour leaders in small, charming, family-run guesthouse, typically in shared double rooms. Whenever possible, we prioritize establishments that protect the landscape, celebrate local architecture, and preserve traditional customs and craftsmanship.

We open the door to a journey that goes beyond the idea of a holiday: a true immersion in the rewilding movement, made of tangible actions and genuine encounters. Experiences that allow you to live this wild land to the fullest and to contribute personally to its revival. A way of travelling that does not stop at observation, but gives value back to the land and supports biodiversity.

The Bear Fund works to support the Central Apennines’ “Bear Smart Communities”. To be classified as “bear smart”, such communities – which are all located within wildlife corridors – have to follow best practice coexistence principles and employ a range of measures to minimise potential conflict with bears.

Rewilding Apennines was created to make the Central Apennines wilder by transforming the relationships between human and non human communities.

Small groups make it easier to move with a light footprint, to take an active role in field activities, and to meet the people shaping the future of the area. This allows participants to connect more deeply with nature, appreciate the value of biodiversity, and feel inspired to act responsibly and respectfully towards the environment.

A core part of our work is sharing how to behave around wildlife in ways that minimise disturbance. Throughout the trip, our guides introduce and model these good practices, and explain why they matter for bears, wolves and other species.

Packed lunches are prepared by a local family run restaurant and are fully vegetarian, based on local products and seasonal recipes. We operate in the heart of the Central Apennines, a region known for its well preserved natural environments, and our food choices reflect our commitment to reducing impact while supporting local producers. Dinners are not included.

LOCAL ECONOMY

A core part of our mission is supporting the local economy. We collaborate closely with local guides, small businesses, restaurants, and accommodation providers, helping to strengthen a sustainable micro-economy that benefits the entire community. This approach not only enriches our guests’ experience with authentic, place-based knowledge, but also ensures that the value generated by our activities remains within the region. All guides and partners involved in our tours are local, and more than 50% of our team members are women, reflecting our ongoing effort to build a more inclusive and balanced tourism sector.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY

Our commitment extends beyond socio-economic sustainability. We maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with the authorities managing Protected Areas, ensuring full compliance with their regulations and contributing to responsible nature-based tourism. We also work alongside conservation NGOs such as Io non ho paura del Lupo, supporting initiatives dedicated to improving coexistence between wildlife and local communities. Through educational activities, thematic events, and conservation projects focused on the Italian wolf, we help raise awareness of the species’ ecological importance and promote a culture of coexistence.

Through this integrated approach, we are not just an outdoor experience provider: it is a connector between territory, conservation, and community. We promote a responsible tourism model that generates tangible value, supports local livelihoods, and fosters a deeper understanding of the natural world—today and for future generations.
