CARBON REDUCTION

This expedition operates with a maximum of 12 guests, reducing per-person emissions compared to higher-capacity vessels. Routes are continuously adapted to weather, sea state and wildlife movements to avoid unnecessary fuel use and long repositioning. Shared group transfers from Alta minimise individual vehicle use.

Meals are prepared on board using predominantly seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, reducing transport emissions associated with imported goods.

Guests are advised pre-trip on lower-impact travel options and encouraged to consider flight routes with lower emissions where available.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

Whale encounters are conducted from the vessel only, maintaining appropriate distance and never chasing, encircling or pressuring animals. Observation is based on patience and natural behaviour rather than fixed outcomes.

Routes are adjusted to avoid sensitive areas and minimise disturbance. Waste is sorted and handled ashore at approved facilities. Reusable tableware is standard practice on board, and disposable items are avoided.

The expedition operates during the natural herring migration season, aligning activities with existing wildlife patterns rather than creating artificial attractions.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

This expedition is based in Northern Norway and operates in and around Alta and surrounding fjord communities. We prioritise working with locally owned suppliers, transport providers and services whenever possible. Food is sourced locally where feasible, including Arctic fish, regional meat and seasonal ingredients that reflect coastal traditions.

Operating during the winter whale season contributes to the local economy at a time when tourism activity is limited. Maritime services, harbour facilities and local transport providers all benefit from expedition activity during the polar night season. By keeping group sizes small and operating responsibly, we aim to create economic value without placing strain on small coastal communities.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

All crew members are locally employed and experienced in Arctic maritime operations. The expedition operates in accordance with Norwegian labour standards, ensuring fair pay, regulated working hours and safe working conditions.

The journey is inclusive and welcoming to travellers of all backgrounds. Small group sizes create a respectful onboard environment where guests are treated equally regardless of nationality, gender or orientation. Decisions are made conservatively to prioritise safety and well-being for both guests and crew.
