CARBON REDUCTION

This self-guided, centre-based walking tour in Catalonia is based in Montserrat, with guests walking between 7-10km per day. It is, by its very nature, slow and sustainable, taking guests through Montserrat Natural Park and around the mountain’s walking trails on foot.

With all of our tours, we encourage our guests to travel to and around Spain using buses and trains whenever possible. This itinerary is reachable by rail, with guests able to arrive in Montserrat by the Cremallera railway from Monistrol de Montserrat or the Aeri cable car. As guests stay in one base throughout the trip, they can explore Montserrat Natural Park and its walking trails without moving between different overnight stops.


ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This walking tour takes guests through Montserrat Natural Park, including trails around Montserrat Monastery, Sant Jeroni, Can Maçana and Roca Foradada.
The routes pass through forested paths, rocky terrain, mountain viewpoints and some of the lesser-known trails around Montserrat.
We remind guests to practise Leave No Trace throughout their trip, especially when walking through Montserrat Natural Park, rocky trails and mountain paths.
With regards to drinking water, we ask guests to bring refillable water bottles as well as a reusable shopping bag to avoid single-use plastic during their trip. We also ask guests to take any packaging away with them and be mindful of not dropping litter.
We have an in-house responsible tourism expert, who shares tips and advice with our guests in trip notes, blogs and newsletters. For example, on how to reduce their impact on the environment and wildlife, support responsible travel practices and respect the places and communities they pass through.

LOCAL ECONOMY

Accommodation on this centre-based tour is in Hostal Abat Cisneros, inside the Montserrat Monastery complex. It has been carefully selected based on a variety of criteria including its location, warm hospitality, good local food and connection to the area.

As guests are based in Montserrat throughout the trip, their spending can support local businesses and services over several days. Breakfast is included every day, and guests are encouraged to buy lunches and snacks locally, pre-order packed lunches from some hotels where needed, and dine in local restaurants.
