ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This self-guided route crosses protected coastal landscapes in Europe, including the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, the Santo André Lagoon, and the Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina. The itinerary passes through diverse ecosystems, from the rice fields of Comporta and coastal dunes to beaches like Melides, Amoreira, and Amado. Along the Sado estuary ferry crossing, cyclists can spot bottlenose dolphins and various bird species, while the Vicentine coast supports unique nesting bird fauna, including cliff-nesting white storks.

To support trail upkeep, we collaborate in annual cleaning and marking events along the Rota Vicentina trails.
