Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

This trip focuses on western Sicily, keeping travel distances relatively short. Private transport is the most practical way to connect the towns, vineyards and rural locations included in the itinerary.

Each itinerary includes carefully curated dining recommendations featuring vegetarian, vegan, and vegetarian-friendly options, as well as authentic local cuisine. When meals are included with an activity, plant-based options are always available. For food enthusiasts, we design enriching culinary experiences, including guided tastings, farm-to-table dining, and private visits with regional producers.

We are proud to support Rewilding Italy, part of Rewilding Europe, an organization dedicated to restoring nature and wildlife and conserving wild landscapes through natural processes for the benefit of society. The Central Apennines is a landscape that has undergone rewilding initiatives.

We are also committed partners of TAP (Travelers Against Plastic), reinforcing our mission to promote sustainable and responsible travel.

People

All of our activity partners are locally owned, independent businesses. We work exclusively with guides and providers who specialize in creating intimate, authentic experiences deeply rooted in their communities.

In some regions, we also partner with small, family-run transportation companies—often just a handful of trusted drivers we know personally—ensuring that you’re supported by local experts at every stage of your journey.

Your trip begins in Palermo, where guided walks and street food tastings introduce you to the city’s culinary traditions. Buying from local vendors helps keep visitor spending within the community, while exploring on foot offers a closer connection to everyday life and the city’s Arab-Norman heritage.

In Piana degli Albanesi, a cannoli breakfast showcases a local specialty and the skills behind it. Visits to organic vineyards, with tastings of Sicilian wines and local cheeses, support regional producers and give you insight into how their products are made. Exploring the Greek temples of Selinunte adds another perspective on the island’s cultural heritage.

In Mazara del Vallo, discovering the Arabic Kasbah and tasting traditional couscous and red shrimp reveal the connections between Sicily’s cuisine, coastal livelihoods and North African influences. Around the Mozia Lagoon and in Marsala’s historic wine cellars, you learn how the landscape and local traditions shape the region’s food and wine. Dinner in Erice brings visitor spending to another of western Sicily’s smaller communities.

Near Trapani, a busiate pasta workshop at an agriturismo supports rural hospitality and helps pass on traditional cooking skills. Tastings of local Grillo wines alongside regional dishes offer further opportunities to support Sicilian producers.

Back in Palermo, a visit to Casa Memoria Peppino Impastato introduces you to Sicily’s anti-Mafia history and the importance of civic responsibility. A farewell dinner in a local home, including an arancini-making experience, creates a direct exchange with your hosts and celebrates the role of home cooking in Sicilian culture.

Throughout your trip, the guided walks, local restaurants, community-run sites, and sustainable transportation ensure your visit benefits the people who make Sicily’s culture and landscapes so meaningful.
