Description of Montenegro family activity holiday

An unforgettable family activity holiday in Montenegro begins in Kotor, with its picturesque old town and beaches ideal for a little R&R with the kids before the adventures get underway. On day three you’ll head to Lovcen National Park, widely considered to be the most beautiful part of Montenegro, where after a delicious BBQ lunch you’ll get into the swing of things, literally, with an exciting high ropes adventure.

Next up, the Tara Canyon, located in Durmitor National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of wildlife. Here you’ll strap on lifevests and helmets for a fun whitewater rafting expedition through Europe’s deepest river canyon.

The following day you can unleash your inner-Bear Grylls as you learn the valuable skill of orienteering, navigating your way between Black Lake and Snake Lake, so-called because of the winding tree roots around the water’s edge. A fantastic spot to cool down as you reward your labours.

Returning to Kotor, via a stunning chair lift ride to the mountaintop, a final day of activities awaits you. You’ll be doing a little sea kayaking on the fjord, pausing for a while on a sandy beach where you can unwind swimming and snorkelling.

Fantastic memories will come naturally on this family holiday in Montenegro. If you’re looking to get your kids out in the fresh air for a while, learning new skills and getting some great physical exercise, this trip will not disappoint. And led by entertaining, safety-conscious guides throughout, the kids will have made new friends and forgotten their screens by the end of day one.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Montenegro is a real hidden gem in our eyes. All members of our team who have visited this destination have fallen in love with its spectacular landscapes and of course we want to ensure that we leave no trace during our holidays and preserve this very special place.

Throughout each and every one of our activities, the guides will operate a leave no trace policy, ensuring destinations and locations are left as we find them. Our holiday enters the delights of the Durmitor National Park and the stunning Tara Canyon and they will ensure that all visitors respect these amazing natural environments.

All of our transfers are shared where possible and this therefore limits the traffic and air pollution impact of the holiday.

The guides we use (as mentioned later) are local and hugely informed on the region and will impart their knowledge with the group which provides a greater insight into life in Montenegro.

The hotels we use are both conscious of their environmental responsibility and therefore ensure that waste is managed and recycling is maximised.

People

All of the guides we work with are local and the accommodation provided is locally owned and operated. This means that the money our guests spend on their holiday directly benefits the local people. In turn, in the more remote areas, this means that work is provided for local young people who may otherwise have had to leave the regions in search of employment elsewhere.

The hotel we use in Kotor is located a short distance from the Old Town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site itself and so gives an immediate understanding of the history and culture of the town.

Guests will try local produce throughout their holiday and this is beneficial not only for our families but for the local economy, as it improves the tourism multiplier effect in the local economy. For example, the restaurant at the Polar Star serves some excellent traditional dishes.

The use of local guides also means that our families gain a greater understanding of the region, life in Montenegro and benefit from experiencing local cuisines and specialties. It adds a huge amount to any holiday and our guests always love feeling a greater connection to the destinations they visit.
