Montenegro family activity holiday
Description of Montenegro family activity holiday
Montenegro has only recently started to receive the kind of glowing publicity that we know it deserves. It is a land of exceptional landscapes which provide the backdrop to some incredible family experiences.
With its walled towns and vast dramatic mountains, a visit to Montenegro is like stepping into the past. It is a country that encapsulates an idyllic blend of Eastern and Western European cultures. Walking on streets over which Ancient Romans walked and swimming in waters once sailed by pirates. Children will feel like intrepid explorers and adults will no doubt be captivated by the sheer beauty of this tiny country.
The sandy and pebbled beaches, warm climate and temperate waters make Kotor an ideal place for families and there are plenty of opportunities for you to swim in the sea, which is only a short walk from your hotel. In the town itself, you will be able to explore the winding cobbled streets and look around the piazzas with their numerous churches, restaurants, and shops.
For a country that’s about the size of Wales, Montenegro punches above its weight when it comes to scenery and national parks. With so much to see, you will relocate to the mountain town of Žabljak to enjoy the wonders and untouched nature of Durmitor National Park for two nights during your stay. Highlights include rafting through the Tara Canyon – the deepest river canyon in Europe – and orienteering around spectacular mountain lakes.

Planet
Montenegro is a real hidden gem in our eyes. All members of our team who have visited this destination have fallen in love with its spectacular landscapes and of course we want to ensure that we leave no trace during our holidays and preserve this very special place.Throughout each and every one of our activities, the guides will operate a leave no trace policy, ensuring destinations and locations are left as we find them. Our holiday enters the delights of the Durmitor National Park and the stunning Tara Canyon and they will ensure that all visitors respect these amazing natural environments.
All of our transfers are shared where possible and this therefore limits the traffic and air pollution impact of the holiday.
The guides we use (as mentioned later) are local and hugely informed on the region and will impart their knowledge with the group which provides a greater insight into life in Montenegro.
The hotels we use are both conscious of their environmental responsibility and therefore ensure that waste is managed and recycling is maximised.
People
All of the guides we work with are local and the accommodation provided is locally owned and operated. This means that the money our guests spend on their holiday directly benefits the local people. In turn, in the more remote areas, this means that work is provided for local young people who may otherwise have had to leave the regions in search of employment elsewhere. The hotel we use in Kotor is located a short distance from the Old Town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site itself and so gives an immediate understanding of the history and culture of the town.
Guests will try local produce throughout their holiday and this is beneficial not only for our families but for the local economy, as it improves the tourism multiplier effect in the local economy. For example, the restaurant at the Polar Star serves some excellent traditional dishes.
The use of local guides also means that our families gain a greater understanding of the region, life in Montenegro and benefit from experiencing local cuisines and specialties. It adds a huge amount to any holiday and our guests always love feeling a greater connection to the destinations they visit.
