Tracking wildlife on foot tips & advice

Marcus Eldh from Wild Sweden on tracking moose, bears and more in Sweden:

Wildlife

“In Sarek you will definitely see plenty of moose, along with reindeer. We’ve seen golden eagles and white-tail eagles in the past, and even brown bear tracks. There are lynx and wolverines here too. In winter many moose leave the park, and many are shot by hunters because they eat so much vegetation. We want to see an end to that and for the moose of Sarek to be protected which is one of the reasons we created this trip. It was the idea of our husky-safari guide, who is local to this area.”

Bergslagen Forest

“People get very absorbed in the hiking and the scenery in Sarek, it’s an exciting trip. In Bergslagen Forest it is more easygoing but you are not walking the whole time. You’ll also be getting around by car or by boat. But again the wildlife here is incredible.”

Wildlife tracking on foot tips from our travellers

At Responsible Travel, we think the best people to advise our travellers are often... other travellers. They always return from our tours with packing tips, weather reports, ideas about what to do - and opinions about what not to.

We have selected some of the most useful wildlife tracking on foot travel tips that our guests have provided over the years to help you make the very most of your holiday - and the space inside your suitcase.
Standing in the woods silently, in the dark waiting for the howl is an intense experience.
- David Green
“The walking safari in Mosi oa Tunya was very special, we got great views of giraffe and white rhinos on foot... The guides were fantastic, they worked very hard to make sure everyone enjoyed themselves and were genuinely passionate about the places we visited.”- Richard Stansfield on a Namibia & Botswana safari

“One of the top moments was an impromptu game walk while based at Rukiya Safari Camp, in which we approached a small pride of lions on foot, after our guide tracked down a kill during a game drive. An experience like that provides a new and intensely emotional perspective of life in the bush.” - Bruce Marsland on a South Africa safari

“The best thing was hearing the wolves howl but the walk through the woods looking for signs of wolf and moose activity was also magical. Standing in the woods silently, in the dark waiting for the howl is an intense experience.” - David Green on a Sweden wildlife tracking holiday

“...the chance to observe animal behaviour and learn some tracking skills made us appreciate the overall experience much more... I will never drive through a pile of dung again after we were shown the impact of this on the mass of creatures that rely on it for their survival.”- Chris Fawcett on a South Africa safari
