Description of Nepal adventure tour

Beginning in Kathmandu, you will immerse yourself in Nepali life with two days of locally-guided city sightseeing. You will take in temples, stupa's (including Boudhanat - the largest in Nepal) and nearby Bhaktapur with its artisans, narrow alleyways, and community centric courtyards before heading back to Kathamandu and Patan city to see some of the finest palaces and temples in the whole of Nepal.

It is then time to leave city life behind for the wilds of the royal Chitwan national park, stopping off to test your adventurous side riding the chutes and bends of the Trishuli River rapids on the way. In Chitwan, you'll have a full day safari in the park which is one of the best places in Nepal for spotting rhinos, tigers and leopards in the wild. Leave space on your memory card because you will now head to Pokhara, one of the most picturesque parts of Nepal with its beautiful lake and magnificent reflections of Machhapuchhare (Fishtail Peak) and the Annapurna range.

No trip to Nepal would be complete without pulling on the walking boots and heading out on a trek and so we've included a three day hike to the vista-blessed Australian camp, staying in tea houses and lodges along the way. The trails are seriously scenic, passing through sub tropical valleys, rhododendron forests, charming villages and terrace farms inhabited by the local Gurung and Magars. Reaching the camp before dark, you will watch the sun set over stunning views of the Himalayas - a real highlight of the tour.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The rafting

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Stay longer in bhaktapur and probably avoid nagorkyot as there is nothing to do or to see and we felt it was a waste of afternoon, would've rather spent more time in bhaktapur

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not at all. The car we were driven around was not the best, would've like to be travelling on a electric or at least hybrid, or if not, maybe sharing with
other people. We stayed on a hotel in chitwan which had chained elephants on their grounds which was awful to see, you could hear them crying from
the hotel room. We also had the elephant ride included but we refused. We had a jeep safari in exchange but it was raining so much it got cancelled, we never got money back for it

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

I did not enjoy it much, the car was not right for the type of roads, the guides were not the best, two of the hotels had not hot water. I did explained to our operator we both were vegans and they said that was OK to then see he did not tell anyone as the guide took us one day to a restaurant with no options for us, which we had to leave. It was very uncomfortable as the server kept asking us why and would almost not let us go.

RESPONSIBLE TRAVEL'S RESPONSE:

Thank you for your feedback, we do value hearing directly from you and what you experienced.

From what we know of the area there are very few places that distribute hybrid and electric cars. Most car rental shops will not stock hybrid or electric cars. The lack of access to these cars is due to the new technology being used. This link to our website does help with more information on this subject.

We are aware of elephant trekking in the Chitwan area. A lot of the hotels have their own elephants. Our operator has requested the hotels not to offer elephant trekking and they have agreed in this regard.

Dear Lara,

Thank you for your comments.

Yes, we had provided a private car because your trip was your honeymoon and also little bit tailor-made as discussed with you in our email. We also did as you liked and reduced one day hiking and plan to stay in Pokhara. We have provided local guide in each place. I know that, due to the rain some places were disturbed to visit or to see mountain view. In Chitwan, we never provide the Elephant Trekking but it is common, you can see many elephant trekking around the hotel. This is not provided nor endorsed by us. Regarding the veg, all hotels will have option in veg and non-veg buffet system for breakfast you have to select one, same as you can get in a Restaurant. Most of the places lunch/dinner was not included, but every restaurant has menu option for different food.

We appreciate your feedback.

Kevin Cottrell,
Thank you for your words regarding the Nepal Tour.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

We have always believed in tourism that aims to have a low impact on the natural environment and local culture, generating income and employment for local people and promoting the conservation of local ecosystems. This is responsible tourism which is both ecologically and culturally sensitive. The locals have major roles to play in sustainable tourism, participating actively and taking responsibility in the industry. We encourage locals to sell local handicrafts or simply talk with tourists to give them an authentic image of the local culture.

Our guide will provide information on how to protect the environment e.g. do not drop litter, dispose of garbage in proper places like garbage boxes, establish fire point in camping treks/tours, if possible give food wastage to domestic animals. Pay a small extra amount to porters to bring back non-disposable items by duffel. Avoid bathing or washing clothes in streams etc. We take only small groups with a maximum of 16 people help to minimise our impact on the environment.

During this trek, trekkers will have the opportunity to give donations to the Annapurna conservation project which plays a vital role in environmental protection and community development in the Annapurna Area. The Annapurna Conservation and Chitwan National Park Area supports high diversity of flora and fauna species. The area harbours rare and endangered wildlife species such as the Snow leopard, Musk deer, Tibetan argali, Impeyan pheasant and Tragopan pheasant. Conservation project provides a large protected area with the entire habitat gradient from sub tropical Sal forests to perennial snow in which to maintain the biodiversity and integrity of the central Himalayas.

People

We try to maximise our contribution to the local community by hiring local familiar guide and porters with knowledge about local culture. We encourage all our clients to hire porters to give local people employment, this is a great way of directing money straight back into the local economy. Our porters are not allowed to carry more than 25kg. In this trek we stay at local lodges/teahouses operated by local people. All lodges/teahouses minimise the impact on the environment by using kerosene/gas fuel instead of fire wood.

We are in partnership with registered charity organisation “Chhahari Group Nepal”, The organisation has been serving in Nepalese society since 2001. Most projects funded by them directly benefit the local community that has been affected by natural or political issues. Many other projects directly or indirectly benefit our citizens, e.g. orphanage home, community school, health camp, scholarship program etc. A current project involves helping to run a free community school for very poor families' children who can’t afford to send their kids to school.
