Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

We take the utmost care to choose local business partners who share our values and commitment to sustainable travel and the environment. We build long-term relationships based on mutual trust and a joint commitment to caring for the environment. Each accommodation focuses on utilising local produce and ingredients in their cooking which in turn reduces their environmental impact. Two of the featured activities – the guided walking tour of Hadrian’s Wall and the boat trip to the Farne Islands, have been deliberately chosen to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience using low-carbon methods of transport.
The Impacts of this Trip
For us, true sustainability means promoting and helping to maintain a way of life where the economic benefit from tourism can make a genuine difference. In sparsely-populated Northumberland, we work with local businesses, not large corporate organisations – which helps our visitors to interact with the local community and get as far off the beaten track as possible.
Each of the activities included in this holiday – the Dark Skies Observatory experience, the guided walking tour of Hadrian’s Wall and the boat trip to the Farne Islands – are led by hand-selected local experts to help support the community.
We make a pledge to never send our customers anywhere we haven’t visited ourselves, so we spend extensive time within local communities doing research for our holiday programme. The result is our “Robert’s Recommendations”, which are included in each of our holiday packs, and feature specific tips on places to visit, eat and shop in each local community.
