Austrian walking and yoga holiday
Description of Austrian walking and yoga holiday
Experience early summer in the Hohe Tauern National Park during our Mindfulness, Walking & Yoga Week at MoaAlm Mountain Retreat in Kals am Großglockner. This special week combines a gentle walking holiday in Austria with mindful yoga practice and time to slow down in the mountains. Each day begins with a morning yoga session that gently awakens the body and prepares you for the day ahead. After a nourishing breakfast, our certified hiking guides lead mindful walks designed for those who prefer a slower pace. Compared to our regular Hike & Yoga holidays, the walks are shorter and involve less altitude gain, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the alpine surroundings. You will learn about the region’s unique wildlife, vibrant plant life, and cultural heritage—always with time to pause, breathe, and notice. On three afternoons, mindfulness workshops deepen your understanding of the practice and offer simple tools you can integrate into everyday life. On the remaining days, you may relax in the hot tub, enjoy the quiet atmosphere of the house, or simply take time for yourself. In the evenings, we gather for a three-course plant-based dinner at MoaAlm, followed by Yin Yoga on selected nights—creating a rhythm that is both active and restorative.
This week is ideal for nature lovers with a basic fitness level and no serious knee injuries. The walks will take between 2 and 4 hours, covering distances of 5-11 km and 200-600 vertical meters, with comfortable breaks. The yoga sessions are designed to be as inclusive as possible, so even if you're a total beginner you're more than welcome to join in.

MoaAlm Mountain Retreat sits at 1,800 metres above Kals am Großglockner, on the edge of Hohe Tauern National Park. The surrounding mountains shape our everyday lives and inspire the way we welcome guests and run our home. For hosts Sophie and Tobias, caring for this place starts with the choices they make every day.Food is one of them. Our evening three-course dinners and afternoon cakes are entirely vegan. We use seasonal ingredients and organic products where available. Breakfast includes a wide range of plant-based options alongside eggs, cheese and dairy products from Kals and the surrounding area. We prioritise regional suppliers where possible and plan our purchases to help avoid unnecessary food waste and reduce packaging.
We also pay attention to how we use resources. Water comes from the mountain spring above the house, and solar energy helps provide hot water. The house is heated with wood pellets. We use LED lighting, water-saving shower heads and cleaning products certified with the EU Ecolabel. Towels and bed linen are changed on request. Waste is separated, composted or recycled where possible.
The house reflects its local setting. Renovations have included improvements to insulation and windows. High quality, locally produced materials have been used where possible, alongside the skills of local tradespeople.
Since 2024, MoaAlm has been an official partner of Hohe Tauern National Park. This partnership reflects our connection to the surrounding landscape and our approach to running the retreat with consideration for the natural environment.
We know that every business has an impact. For us, caring for the mountains means paying attention to the choices we make, improving where we can and sharing our appreciation for this remarkable place with our guests.
People
MoaAlm is surrounded by mountains and with no neighbours in sight. We love our secluded location, but our connection to the village of Kals am Großglockner is just as important to us. We work with local businesses, use regional products and services where possible, and encourage our guests to discover the people and places that make this area special. Our guests can book activities with local mountain guides, ski instructors and other outdoor specialists. Guests also have opportunities to eat at locally run restaurants and experience the region beyond MoaAlm. Many of our everyday connections are right here in Kals, from the cheese served at breakfast to the firewood used at the house.
Our team is at the heart of MoaAlm. Sophie and Tobias live at the retreat and work alongside the people who make each week possible. We want our team members to feel valued, have fair working conditions and enjoy time in the mountains themselves. Our team consists mainly of women, and we value the confidence and independence that come with working, guiding and spending time outdoors.
At MoaAlm, people often arrive as strangers and leave having shared mountain adventures, meals and conversations. All activities are optional, of course: everyone is welcome to join the group or take time for themselves. We hope that the experiences guests share here—with the mountains, with one another and with the local community—stay with them long after they return home.
