Hard to choose, but the visit to the Temple of the Tooth was fascinating - as was the Navam Perahera festival in Colombo (an add on - it wasn't mentioned by the tour company but I found out about it on the plane out.) And the elephants were wonderful! Read full review

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We love our planet. Our philosophy is that the holiday you take shouldn’t be at the cost of the environment. A commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism is part of our DNA and your holiday will be designed with this in mind. Our local partners are very well informed about the standards we have set and we ensure that they closely adhere to them.

Our responsible tourism promise aims to ‘ creates better places for people to live in, and better places to visit’. Our specialist team designs each and every holidays with responsible holidays and ethical tourism approach. We give many opportunities for our clients to experience what the ‘real’ Sri Lanka is.
Environment and sustainability is high on our list of concerns. We take pride in the achievement of a healthy balance between environment, local people and YOU, the tourist. To ensure environmental awareness of our clients we provide them with detailed environmental information about places they visit, and how they can help. Visits to nature reserves and national parks are popular among holiday makers to Sri Lanka. We give instructions to both our clients and guides on how to minimise impact on environment disturbance to the wildlife.

During this tour we promote visits to National Parks, that includes Minneria, Wilpattu and Udawalawe. We encourage our customers to read about wildlife in these parks before visiting and spread awareness of environmental problems, including declining of animal species. When people are aware of these problems they are tent to care more about the environment. When visiting protected area we inform our clients to respect the environment and to ensure minimum impact. If you wish you can give a donation to park authorities.

You will also be visiting Elephant Transit Home at Udawalawa National Park. This place is very important for elephants protection. Elephant Transit Home (ETH), where the orphan wild elephants are treated, raised and released back to the wild, also is located at Udawalawe. Visitors to this place can observe how the elephants are taken care of, twice a day. Total number of orphaned elephants exceeds 40, of which most of them are calves and juveniles. Unlike other places in Sri Lanka this elephant orphanage is genuinely helping animals. Here you will also learn about elephant-human problem and you can help by donate directly to the place.

Your visit to Anuradhapura you will involve a bicycle tour which is a carbon-free method of exploring. You will also travel by train for few hours.

We ensure that the hotels that we choosing for our holidays are doing something good for the environment, from recycling through growing their own fruits and vegetables to using solar power. These practises reduce impact on the environment.

Our clients are informed of how they can contribute to protect environment financially or if they would like to get involved in some local projects
My promise to support my community:
Our specialist team designs each and every holidays with responsible holidays and ethical tourism approach.

People

We organize ethical & responsible holidays to Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Seychelles, Mauritius and Maldives.
We provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connect ions with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues.

One important area for sustainable tourism that we wish to highlight is tea and spices. Tea and spices are often purchased by tourists in Sri Lanka and taken home as a gift for friends or family. In our tours around Sri Lanka we encourage our clients to visit fairly-traded and organic tea and spices plantations. We also inform and advice our clients where they can buy products that have been fairly-traded.
During this tour you will have a chance to visit tea plantations and spice gardens where you can buy the products directly cutting middle man and giving better income for farmers.

The advantage of this private tour is that you can decide where and when to stop. This give you an advantage to help many small business be purchasing their goods. You have to try a king coconut drink! It is the best refreshment while traveling in and about Sri Lanka. It is always cool, and refreshing. It is full of minerals. Most importantly, this small purchase will contribute to the small local businesses.
There are also many local craftsmen that you can buy your souvenirs from.

We encourage our clients to eat at least one meal per day in local restaurants. This is beneficial for both local businesses and for tourists. Local businesses will gain the economic benefits through income and tourist will get unforgettable experience by interacting with local people.
Our promises to support communities in this tour show that we implement responsible tourism wherever is possible in this program.
You will have an opportunity to visit local village where you can purchase craft and art directly from the craft man.

Visiting temples, including Dambula Cave Temple and Kandy Temple of the Tooth will help you to understand local traditions, culture and religion. Having knowledge about these will help you to understand and respect their life. We inform our clients about local culture, customs, how to behave, and what to wear whilst visiting places so as not to not offend local people and their culture.

When visiting attractions, like Sigiriya, Anuradhapura, Dambulla and Parks we will use a local guides. They are self educated guides who depend on tourism financially. We also use many small, locally own accommodations. You will support communities by staying in these places as staff are from local villages and food is grown locally. We provide a list of places as well as local communities and institutions if you would like to leave donations.

We highly recommend Ayurveda or Traditional spa treatments in Sri Lanka. Ayurveda is the ancient health care system in South Asia that has been passed down from father to son and based on herbs and diet. During this tour you you will have a chance experience it! The benefits to the local community will be really significant. Your payment will contribute to the therapist directly and also to the local farmers as many ingredients that are used during treatments are grown locally.

During this tour you will take boat safari at Madu Ganga River. During this safari you will wittiness the work of local communities who produce cinnamon and cinnamon oil. You could contribute to their business and buy from them directly.

We are a responsible travel company and has confidence in our capacity to operate as one because we do know the country well. We can truly give you detailed advice about the places you want to visit that would be of benefit to locals and to the environment, whilst serving your need to realise your holiday aspirations.
