Description of Hawaii small group tour

Explore a true tropical paradise with this fun Hawaii island-hopping holiday that takes you from Honolulu to Kona, Volcanoes National Park and finally Maui, on an itinerary that leaves you with plenty of free time to take on a Hawaiian state of mind.

Guided hiking is included in several destinations such as the beautiful Waimea Canyon, and around Mauna Loa, the largest volcano on the planet. This is a great tour of active travellers, with opportunities for river kayaking, swimming and snorkeling with manta rays and turtles, but also for those looking to uncover some of Hawaii’s unique cultural aspects. The Pearl Harbour Museum and Memorial in Honolulu is a very popular attraction for visitors to learn about the infamous surprise attack that preceded America’s involvement in WWII; you might visit Hulihe'e Palace, once a vacation home for Hawaiian royalty, and on the way to Volcanoes National Park you’ll pause at the Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Site to learn about traditional beliefs on Hawaii and the religious laws underpinning them.

Volcanoes National Park of course is a spectacular place to spend a couple of days. You’ll hike through lava tunnels and across a crater, learn about the enthralling science of volcanology, and the dangers it naturally presents, and be wowed by a vast lava lake glowing under the night sky.

Finally finish in Maui, a tropical paradise that has filled the imaginations of countless dreamers for years. While it gets busy at times, you can escape the crowds for a little while by hiking in the rainforest or up a dormant volcano, or even joining a whale watching tour. And don’t forget to grab some barbecue on the beach one evening, a Hawaiian tradition everyone should sample at least once.

Small group adventure holiday

This is a 'small group adventure' - on this particular group trip you'll be with a maximum of 31 like minded travellers and you'll have a group leader with you. Whether you are travelling alone or with friends it's good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is some flexibility and you'll have plenty of privacy. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world as well as seeing new places!

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
We actively discourage our travellers from participating in any activities that exploit wild, domestic or working animals. We believe wild animals should be viewed – without contact or interaction – doing what they do best: living in the wild. This applies to the optional activities of swimming with manta rays in Kailua-Kona and whale watching in Lahaina, as well as to any other encounters with animals on this trip.

During this tour we’ll visit several sites of natural beauty, including hiking in Waimea Canyon, canoeing along the Wailua River and exploring Na Pali Coast State Park. Each time our travellers will be advised to stick to the signposted trails to minimise their impact on these fragile environments. We also see it as our responsibility to ask all travellers to take any rubbish with them and ensure no litter is left behind. On a trip to the Thomas A. Jaggar Museum, our passengers will have the opportunity to learn more about the history of volcanology and thereby understand how important it is to protect these unique areas.
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

Due to our small group sizes, a maximum of 13 people on this particular tour, it’s possible for us to keep our impact on the local environment and community to a minimum. The size of the group also means we’re able to stay in smaller locally-run hotels, which enables us to support the local economy and have a more authentic Hawaiian experience.

This trip includes three domestic flights: Honolulu to Kauai, onto Kailua-Kona and finally onto Maui. These flights allow us to explore the wider reaching regions of Hawaii and means the flow of income from visitors is distributed to a greater audience rather than remaining concentrated on a small handful of tourism providers.

We also eat in local restaurants and encourage travellers to purchase traditional souvenirs from local artisans. Through doing so they’re able to gain an authentic insight into the lives of local people and support their businesses directly.

We also employ Hawaiian guides, who live and breathe our responsible travel philosophy. All travellers will be briefed about what it means to be a responsible traveller in their initial welcome meeting, which takes place on the first day of the tour.

When visiting religious sites like the Mokuaikaua Church, the oldest Christian church in the archipelago, we ask our passengers to dress modestly and respectfully by ensuring their shoulders and knees are covered. Respect and consideration are extremely important when it comes to learning about new cultures. For this reason, we also provide travellers with the opportunity to discover more about the traditional Hawaiian belief system and the kapu (religious laws) that were the basis of that system, when visiting the Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park.
