Carbon Reduction

As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.
This trip avoids internal flights, with travel between Bali and Lombok completed by public fast boat rather than air, reducing the need for avoidable domestic flights while offering a more immersive journey between the islands. As this is a walking holiday, much of the itinerary is explored on foot, helping to minimise transport emissions while allowing a closer connection with local landscapes and communities. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available on request throughout the trip, although options can be more limited in remote areas. Much of the produce used, particularly vegetables and locally caught fish, is seasonal and sourced within the islands, helping to support local producers and reduce food miles.

Environment and Wildlife

We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth. We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.
We work with accommodation partners to better understand and reduce environmental impacts through self-assessment questionnaires, helping us review areas such as waste, water management and plastic reduction. Throughout the walking sections of the trip, local guides provide practical advice on travelling responsibly, including respecting wildlife and natural environments, staying on established trails and leaving no trace. Walks are supported by our tour leaders and knowledgeable local walking guides who know the routes and landscapes well, helping us explore safely while providing local insight into the environment and communities visited. The itinerary also encourages a low-impact style of travel through small-group trekking, village stays and time spent in natural landscapes across Bali and Lombok.

Local Economy

Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
Accommodation throughout the trip is locally owned or locally operated, helping tourism income remain within communities across Bali and Lombok. We maximise local economic opportunities by working with freelance local tour leaders and walking guides, visiting markets and villages, and supporting local businesses throughout the journey. Time spent in rural communities and lesser-visited areas also helps spread the economic benefits of tourism beyond major resort destinations.

Employment, Inclusivity and Diversity

We believe that diversity is to be celebrated and as a Certified B Corp we're committed to championing equity and inclusion throughout our entire supply chain. We believe that an inclusive approach is essential, and that the best results occur when contributors have different opinions, experiences and backgrounds to bring to the table.
All guides and operational staff involved in this trip are Indonesian nationals, with local guides recruited directly from the communities and regions visited. We also aim to create income-generating opportunities for Indigenous and local communities through guiding and community-based tourism experiences. Staff are paid above the local minimum wage, and we support an inclusive workplace with team members from a wide range of ethnic and religious backgrounds. This trip is LGBTQ+ friendly, although travellers are encouraged to respect local customs around public displays of affection. Due to the walking-focused nature of the itinerary, uneven terrain and trekking conditions, the trip is not suitable for travellers with limited mobility and may not be appropriate for those with cognitive conditions requiring additional support.
