Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Water is a precious commodity in the Khumbu valley, despite the amount of ice! In addition, safe water is a key requirement for Western visitors. All lodges help in the provision of clean water, but we encourage our travellers to take life straws and water containers to ease the process and we ensure two litres per day are provided from boiled water sources. We therefore reduce the need for disposable plastic and waste. If people need power to recharge phones or cameras, we encourage portable chargers rather than using the local power, which is solar generated and limited in supply. The local people already use Yak dung as fuel and most stoves are powered by this readily available source. We work with local accommodation and meal providers to ensure local people gain from our visits through our spend and share the same values, which as the Sherpa people are spiritual and worship the mountains and nature, is more about us learning from them!

These lodges are among the world's highest lodges, offering panoramic views of some of the highest mountains in the world such as Mt. Everest. Each of the lodges have 15 - 20 spacious rooms, furnished with high quality, modern furnishings but in traditional style YMH rooms provide comfort with charm, modern functionality with Sherpa detailing, a wonderful place to rest and replenish after a day on the trail. The Kathmandu offices are run by a dedicated team overseen by the founders Sonam Sherpa, his wife Anita and son Namgyal. Operations are superbly managed by Pasang Sherpa and her team of assistants and the lodge teams are staffed by a wonderful professional and friendly bunch of people. With its commitment to employing, training and developing staff from the local villages and valleys, YMH ensures its lodge teams offer a true Sherpa welcome and service to our guests.
