Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

Carbon Reduction
This trek inherently maintains a very low carbon footprint, with the only private vehicle use limited to the airport-to-hotel transfer between Venice Airport and our hotel in Dobbiaco. All other transfers for day walks utilise local public buses, and the itinerary also incorporates the use of the cable car network, supporting sustainable transport.
As a walking trip, participants spend each day exploring the region on foot, minimizing environmental impact and immersing themselves in the natural surroundings. Additionally, the hotel offers free bicycles for hire, subject to availability, providing another eco-friendly option for local exploration.
Vegetarian and vegan meal options available for all included meals. Most of the food served is locally sourced and seasonal, including picnic lunches featuring regional specialties such as local cheeses and cured meats. This approach supports local producers while reducing food miles, ensuring a greener, more responsible travel experience
As a travel company we're acutely aware of our impact on the environment. Each one of our tours displays a carbon footprint, and we're working to reduce our emissions by regularly reviewing our itineraries and embracing lower-impact styles of travel such as trains, public buses or walking – which aren't just better for the planet, but we believe offer a more enjoyable and authentic travel experience too. We're a Certified B Corp that's committed to creating unforgettable adventures while protecting our planet for future generations.

Environment and Wildlife
As part of our Responsible Travel policy, we encourage customers to bring reusable water bottles, lunch boxes, and cutlery to reduce waste during the trip. The Dolomites, a stunning and iconic hiking destination, feature beautiful Alpine landscapes rich with endemic flora. To protect this fragile environment, our trek leaders brief customers on responsible walking practices, including sticking to designated trails to prevent erosion, carrying out all waste, and following proper 'bush stop' etiquette.
The accommodation on this trip supports sustainability by sourcing food locally, using energy-efficient LED bulbs, separating and recycling waste, and utilizing the innovative Fernheizwerk biomass heating system, which is widely used in South Tyrol. These efforts significantly reduce environmental impacts while supporting local and renewable energy initiatives.
We strive to support nature and biodiversity through protection and regeneration projects, and for every customer that travels with us we make a donation to Rewilding Britain and Cool Earth.
We encourage customers to avoid single-use plastic on tour, and our leaders give advice on refill points each day. Where tap water isn't safe to drink we recommend Water-to-Go bottles, a filtration bottle allowing you to drink water from any source.

People

Local Economy
This trip stays at the welcoming, family-run Hotel Tschurtschenthaler, owned by the local Tschurtschenthaler family. Choosing a locally owned establishment ensures that a portion of the economic benefit from our visit directly supports the community. The hotel's restaurant serves delicious regional specialties, including Tyrolean dumplings with speck and the Trentino dish of spinach spätzle. To further support the local economy, dinner is not included on three nights of the trip, giving you the chance to explore and dine at some of Dobbiaco’s other fantastic restaurants. Additionally, the hotel's central location allows guests to visit local cafes, shops, delicatessens, and markets, providing even more opportunities to experience and contribute to the local culture.
Our leaders are the heart of tours. They bring passion and unrivalled knowledge of the destinations and communities that we visit. Their guidance ensures we observe the cultural norms in a destination, they act as a bridge between travellers and the local community and ensure that tourism is a positive experience for both host and guest. We believe in supporting local; staying in locally-run hotels, exploring markets, buying snacks from street vendors, and by doing this we add money to the local economy and enhance our connection with the local community.
