Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.
Planet
1. Akagera National park was struggling until Africa parks took over its management. The area had few animals left because of poaching and having part of its land used for resettling people. Marketing and taking travelers to Akagera national park helps in contributing to its conservation through the entrance fees paid. In addition the park trained community rangers who benefit from an increased flow of visitors as this increases the benefits the community gets from the park – from buying crafts and employing people from the surrounding communities.2. Just like all our tours, we minimize trash on our safaris by encouraging travelers to reuse different materials. We provide/ encourage travelers to carry reusable water bottles. This is because we no longer buy the small disposable water cartons but rather the bigger bottles that then ensures plastic. Whatever rubbish generated while on safari must be retained in the car and safely disposed of by the driver guide.
People
Community1. We employ guides from the communities we work in. We pay fair wages to them which allows them to provide for their families and also keeps them interested in working in the tourism sector. We open up opportunities for exposure to new communities therefore broadening their skills and confidence. Sometimes a guide has not visited a particular area in the country which can limit their employability opportunities, we allow them to travel along a senior guide and learn therefore increasing their chances.
2. We encourage visits to communities and homesteads along the tourism route. On this safari, you will visit the Nyamirambo community center and purchase some crafts for you and gifts to your friends and family. Depending on availability of time, you can get involved in the purchase of food from the market and prepare it. You will also have a tea experience near Nyungwe forest. End the tour with a visit to the gorilla guardians village in Volcanoes national park. All these ensure that dollars directly go to the pockets of communities.
