Responsible Travel
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.
Planet
CARBON REDUCTION:This luxury itinerary has been designed to ensure that it has a positive impact on the planet. We encourage travellers to plan a longer trip farther away and stay longer in one place instead of taking multiple short trips each year.
For example, Alto Atacama has smartly positioned its rooms to maximise the heating effects of sunlight and ventilation, reducing the need for air conditioning and heating. Covering the rooms is special thermic material to maintain the heat in the winter and make summers enjoyable.
ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE:
When in conservation areas, we hand-pick lodges that have a positive impact on the environment and actively preserve this for future generations.
For example, Alto Atacama, due to being located in the Atacama desert, water is very precious, water is recycled and treated, and the lodge has a reverse osmosis system that makes the water drinkable. After the water is used in the hotel, it is used to irrigate and nourish the garden.
People
LOCAL ECONOMY:It is very important that we promote small lodges that have a positive impact on their surroundings and give back to the local community.
For example, La Casona of Matetic Vineyard is a family-run hotel and vineyard with most of the team residing locally in Lagunillas, Casablanca or close by in the Rosario Valley. The lodge participates in many social and educational schemes in the nearby communities, they have recently redesigned the outdoor area of the Lagunillas Primary School aiming to strengthen the connection of the students with the outdoors.
The lodge also promotes activities that initiate local handicrafts, such as work with wool, in a project known as “Entre Cerros”, or “Among the Hills.”
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY:
All the guides referred to in this itinerary are employed locally and offer incredible knowledge about the history and communities of Chile. We believe it is essential to have local guides as this provides a more authentic and cultural experience for travellers. Employing local guides ensures money goes back into the local community.
