Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

We work with the policy of ‘Take nothing but memories, Leave nothing but footprints’. This means that we do not leave any foreign materials or waste in our trail and we work carefully with travellers to eliminate waste management and to be mindful of the scarce resources such as water.

This itinerary is very focussed on food which is all locally-sourced in both Georgia & Armenia. We have also removed the need for a regional flight as clients will fly into Tiblisi in Georgia where the trip begins and then fly our of Yerevan in Armenia where the trip ends.

On Day 9 clients will visit Lake Sevan, the 'Emerald of Armenia' and the second largest alpine lake in the world, to admire the picturesque views of one of the highest bodies of water in the world and how this natural environment and water source is maintained.

Finally, we are very proud to have partnered with Water-To-Go, specialists in personal and expedition water purification, instantly, and on-demand. Their unique, 350L water bottles incorporate advanced filtration technology to convert even the dirtiest water to drinking water as you fill up.

Being able to produce safe drinking water from sources off the beaten track, of sometimes dubious quality, offers incredible benefits to our adventure travellers and eliminates the need for single-use plastic bottles. We subsidise this product to make it more accessible to you.

People

Georgia:

It is important for us to support and help local families, so they can share their experience with foreign guests, introduce them to ancient Georgian traditions and lifestyle. All of this is an integral part of this adventure:

Teona Shamanauri - local host
In the suburbs of Tbilisi, there is a special family, which is distinguished by its hospitality and delicious food. The host – Teona is a very good cook, who helps foreign guests to get to know Georgian cuisine. Together with her, guests have opportunity to visit and shop in a local farmer’s market, select all the products and later, prepare Georgian traditional dishes in the host’s house.
This is a unique experience for our guests.

Vardisubani Village - Qvevri master
In one of the villages of Kakheti, in Vardisubani, there is a family that continues an ancient Georgian tradition. They are producing “Qvevri” – clay vessel. Visiting this family is a unique and invaluable experience for our guests, because here they have possibility to attend the process of making a «Qvevri” clay vessel. The host consistently describes all the details that make Georgian wine unique and distinguished in the world. Georgian traditional Qvevri wine-making method is inscribed on the world heritage list of UNESCO.

Armenia:

Bavra- Gyumri City Tour- Dzitoghtsyan Museum-Gyumri
In 1988 Gyumri has experienced an earthquake and many buildings, churches have been collapsed because of natural disaster. Visits to this city helps to the citizens to reestablish the building monastries, roads. Although the city has been partially reconstructed after earthquake, there are many “lands” which are left as same as after disaster.

Gyumri-Etchmiadzin- Zvartnots- Yerevan
We will have masterclass and lunch at the local house. There are many women working at the kitchen and help the owner who are from villages and the profit they gain goes to their houses and villages. People who life in villages do not have enough income and work to be able to afford their needs, thus all those visits help those women and their families to have income and work for our guests.

Yerevan- Garni-Geghard-Lake Sevan-Yerevan
The same for Lavash baking presentation in Garni. People who do the baking presentation are from villages whose work and income comes only due to our guests from abroad. This is how we help people in Garni Village to sustain.
In the program we have also offered an optional activity: Duduk performance. This man also is musician and his income again comes from the performances from our guests from abroad.
