Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

TRANSPORT
- About 90% of this trip is on foot. We use shared local transport such as buses and jeeps where available, including to Jagat on Day 2.
- The trek ends with two domestic flights because the road to Kathmandu is under construction and the bus journey takes 10–12 hours for about 150 km.
- We use electric vehicles for airport transfers and sightseeing in Kathmandu.
- Our porters carry equipment and bags, so you carry only a day pack.

TIPS FOR TRAVELLERS
- Pack light. You can rent rarely used gear and clothing in local shops rather than buying it for one trip.
- Bring a reusable bottle to refill along the way, and treat refilled water.
- Vegetarian and vegan meals are available throughout, with no need to tell us in advance. We prioritise local and seasonal ingredients where available.
- Many partner lodges use solar power.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
- Our partner accommodation is locally run.
- The trip includes ACAP and TIMS permits. ACAP fees support management of the Annapurna Conservation Area.
- Your guide briefs you on the first day on how to keep your impact low and shares knowledge of the region's ecosystems and wildlife as you walk.
- Our guides are expert local guides, often from the local community.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY
- All accommodation on this trip is locally owned, including homestays, guesthouses and lodges in remote areas.
- We are a locally run travel company based in Kathmandu. We employ local guides and also hire graduates, who learn alongside our experienced guides. Trips often include visits to craft markets, cooperatives and villages, where you can buy handmade crafts and learn about traditional ways of life.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
- Our team is mostly Nepali.
- We employ women as porters on our homestay treks and as city guides in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Pokhara.
- We pay above the minimum wage. Several of our guides have been with us for more than five years.
- We welcome travellers of all backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ travellers.
- We try to accommodate travellers with different needs. This trip is challenging for people with limited mobility or with vision, hearing, or cognitive impairments.

TRIP FOR A TRIP
We run a Trip for a Trip scheme with Responsible Travel, offering day trips for local children in the Dulegaunda region, in partnership with a local school.
