Swimming holiday in Spain, Balearics
Description of Swimming holiday in Spain, Balearics
If you’re interested in a swimming holiday but you’re not used to open water, this trip will be ideal. Spend a week on the island of Formentera, just 30 minutes by ferry from Ibiza, in a sociable small group led by an expert coach.
Daily swims in the warm, calm sea off Formentera are complemented by technique sessions that provide one-on-one coaching if required. Underwater filming can be used for in-depth stroke analysis. So whether you want to get to grips with open water, you’re recuperating from injury, or you want to improve your abilities, this Formentera swimming holiday provides the safe and supportive atmosphere you need.
Your base on the beautiful island of Formentera is a hotel close to the shallow beach, just outside Es Pujols. Within walking distance, a host of local restaurants where you can dine in the evenings with your group – swim coaches are happy to make recommendations. These holidays are brilliant for making new friends as groups bond very quickly, making them great for solo travellers.
Itineraries are kept flexible, to take into account tides and weather, however the aim will be for a swim and a coaching session each day. The sea is calm, and around a pleasant 22°C. There is no fixed level of swimming ability but do let us know if you’re a novice so we can advise you how suitable this trip is. And non-swimming partners are more than welcome to join too – the sea is so inviting, they often end up taking a dip with the group too.

CARBON REDUCTIONWe have designed our trip operations carefully to minimize our impact on our environment. By its very nature, exploring the world via swimming is “human powered”, means our guests are not using unnecessary motorized vehicles to enjoy their holiday destination. We try to keep our transfer times as short as possible, ensuring guests spend less time travelling and more time swimming on their swim vacation. All our trips are sold without flights so travellers have the option to use more environmentally friendly means of travel if they wish.
Guests use shared local transport to travel from Ibiza to Formentera on the ferries and we share all guest arrival times so that collective lifts can be arranged on Ibiza.
The hotel have installed solar panels to help provide some renewable energy and in their kitchens waste is separated to maximise recycling. Vegetarian & Vegan food is available daily from both our hotel and the local restaurants that we choose to visit in the evenings. The hotel uses fresh local ingredients and locally caught seafood.
ENVIRONMENT & WILDLIFE
Formentera is surrounded by 76,500,000 square meters of Posidonia meadow. The locals tell us that the clarity of the water in Formentera is largely due to this Posidonia sea grass that grows on the sea floor. These under-sea meadows were one of the main reasons Formentera and Ibiza achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in 1999. We are proud to support the work of the Save Posidonia Project and donate to preserve one square metre pre guest who books this trip.
We continue to be reminded of the problem of plastic in our oceans. As such, we are committed to helping reduce to amount of plastic we use on our trips. We do this by:
• Encouraging guests to bring their own reusable water bottle on tour, or purchasing one of our non-plastic reusable alternatives
• Running regular guide plastic clean up sessions in our locations
• Using locally grown produce and home-cooked food wherever available to reduce the amount of plastic food packaging bought.

LOCAL ECONOMYThe hotel we use in Formentera is part of a local small chain of hotels on Formentera which helps to support the local economy. Our local partners provide an invaluable wealth of local knowledge, which helps enhance our guest’s cultural experiences – from food, to customs and hidden-away local gems. Through years of building happy, positive relationships with our local partners, we are confident in the knowledge that our guests will receive a wonderful warm welcome.
As most of our locations are small and remote, we make sure that our itineraries ‘spread the happiness’ meaning we take the guests to visit different businesses within the community. For example, we arrange for evening meals to be hosted at a different local restaurant each night, ensuring that the economic benefits brought about by our operation are distributed in an equitable way on the island.
EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
The hotel provides employment opportunities for local people on Formentera. We use small, locally owned restaurants in the evenings which help sustain employment in the area.
All our trips are inclusive and everyone is welcome to join us as long as we can make suitable arrangements for any individual needs. The trip is LGBTQ+ friendly and we are happy to discuss individual needs relating to mobility, vision, hearing or cognitive issues and as long as we can put in place measures to ensure the trip remains safe for all guest we welcome everyone.
