The majority of activities, such as snowshoeing, husky sledding, and guided Northern Lights walks, rely on human or animal-powered transportation for at least two full days, greatly reducing operational carbon emissions. In addition, snowmobiles are used primarily for wilderness access over short distances, optimizing the balance between experience and fuel use. Accommodations and wilderness huts promote energy conservation, with off-grid features such as heating by fireplace and cooking on a gas stove. Vegetarian options are generally available throughout Lapland, and several meals include locally sourced foods like wild berries, fish, and root vegetables. We also provide all travelers with advice on how to lower their carbon footprint while traveling in Finland, including tips for choosing vegetarian food, limiting waste, and using local public transport if opting for post-tour extensions.


ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

We conduct thorough reviews of accommodations’ environmental practices, prioritizing properties with recycling programs, water reduction policies, and local sourcing of food, minimizing the use of single-use plastics wherever possible. Many accommodations take additional steps such as supporting local wildlife habitats by preserving natural landscapes and minimizing external lighting to reduce impact on nocturnal species and the observation of the Northern Lights. The itinerary includes visits to protected natural areas, and entry to the Sámi museum directly supports cultural and nature education. When engaging with wildlife, such as reindeer and huskies, our tours only visit Sámi and family-run farms where animal welfare is central and where the animals live in environments closely linked to natural habits. We provide guests with responsible wildlife interaction guidelines and guidance about preserving Lapland’s pristine environment, including advice on avoiding the spread of invasive species.
