CARBON REDUCTION

Efforts are made throughout the trip to reduce environmental impact while travelling within the Mwanza region. Guests are encouraged to explore the local area on foot or by bike where possible, helping reduce reliance on vehicles for shorter journeys while also offering a more personal way to experience the surrounding communities and landscapes.

Mwanza Lake View Farm and Eco Lodge uses solar energy for electricity and water heating. The lodge also works to minimise waste where possible, with remaining waste taken to designated collection points.

Food served during the trip is sourced locally wherever possible, with many vegetables grown on site and picked by hand. Additional produce is sourced from nearby markets and businesses, including fish from local fishermen on Lake Victoria and meat from local suppliers in the Mwanza region.

Travel to Tanzania does require flying, and this cannot always be avoided. Rather than discouraging travel entirely, the focus of the experience is on supporting lower impact tourism practices on the ground and contributing to locally led businesses and initiatives within the region.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

The trip encourages a slower and more environmentally conscious way of experiencing northern Tanzania, with opportunities to learn more about local ecosystems, everyday life around Lake Victoria, and the relationship between communities and the natural environment.

The accommodation adopts a number of practices aimed at reducing environmental impact, including reducing pollution, minimising plastic use, recycling where possible, and using rainwater harvesting systems.

Optional visits to national parks and protected areas contribute directly to conservation through park entry fees and support for protected wildlife areas in Tanzania.

LOCAL ECONOMY

This trip is designed to ensure that tourism delivers clear and direct benefits to the local economy in the Mwanza region.

Accommodation is locally owned and operated, allowing guests to experience Tanzanian hospitality while helping income remain within the community. Throughout the trip, guests are introduced to local businesses, guides, markets, and community initiatives connected to the Lake Victoria region.

Visits to craft markets, local food vendors, and nearby villages form part of the experience, helping support small businesses, local artisans, and cooperative initiatives in the area.

All staff employed by the accommodation and operating partners in Tanzania are Tanzanian, with many coming directly from the surrounding communities. This helps ensure that the economic benefits of tourism are shared locally.

Fair wages and staff welfare

Staff employed by local operating partners are paid at least the minimum wage, with additional support provided where needed for staff wellbeing and family health related costs.
