CARBON REDUCTION
With a maximum of just 10 guests, this itinerary is designed to tread lightly — on the environment and on the places we visit. Small groups mean we avoid overcrowded sites, reduce the footprint associated with large-scale tourism, and enjoy far more genuine connections with the people and landscapes we encounter. On Giglio, we explore largely on foot and by boat, moving at the island's own unhurried pace. In Allerona, several days are entirely car-free, with meals, walks, and experiences all within the village itself. The products we serve are 0km whenever possible, and the restaurants we visit share our commitment to sustainably grown and raised food, wine, and local products. Vegetarian options are always available, and with enough notice, we're happy to arrange vegan offerings as well.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
In Allerona, guests stay at our own Six Keys Guesthouse, where green practices are simply part of how we operate — no single-use plastics, recycling throughout, and filtered water dispensers in place of bottled water. On Giglio, we stay at a small, independently owned hotel that reflects the island's own ethos of preservation; Giglio's waters fall within a protected marine area, and our boat excursions are led with that in mind. Back on the mainland, guests engage with Umbrian agricultural and natural traditions through foraging walks, cooking with local producers, and visits to working estates. Our nature walk is guided by an expert ethno-botanist who brings the landscape to life — explaining the long, layered relationship between humans, animals, plants, and the land they've shared across centuries.

LOCAL ECONOMY
This tour is built around the people who actually live and work in the places we visit. On Giglio, we eat at family-run waterfront restaurants, hire local boat operators and hiking guides, and stay at an independently owned hotel — keeping tour spending where it belongs, in the hands of islanders who have dedicated their lives to this small, remarkable place. In Allerona, the same philosophy holds: meals come from local trattorie and private kitchens, tastings feature wine and olive oil from nearby producers, and experiences like our cooking lesson and nature walk are led by people born and raised in the area. With a maximum of 10 guests, every euro spent has an outsized impact on the small, family-run businesses that make these communities worth visiting in the first place.

Our investment in Allerona and in other quietly depopulating villages across Italy is genuine and ongoing. We believe that thoughtful, small-scale tourism can be a real force for sustaining local economies and encouraging new enterprises to take root. Every person we employ or partner with — on Giglio and in Umbria alike — is Italian, and in Allerona, most are people who grew up in the village itself. Our tours welcome friendly, curious travelers of all races, nationalities, and identities, including members of the LGBTQ+ community. We're also committed to accessibility: our itineraries can be adapted for guests with limited mobility, and we have happily and proudly hosted travelers with special developmental needs.
