Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

CARBON REDUCTION

This trip is designed around low-carbon travel. Arrival to the islands is by public catamaran and shared local transfer. Once the group is on the water, sea kayaking is the main form of transport throughout the trip, so the itinerary is based on human-powered travel rather than motorised island-hopping or speedboat excursions.

Guests are encouraged to travel lightly, bring reusable water bottles and reduce single-use plastic during the trip. Meals are prepared in a simple way at the house or with local suppliers, and vegetarian or vegan food can be arranged with advance notice. This combination of shared transport, human-powered movement and local food helps keep the trip lower impact overall.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

This itinerary takes place in a highly sensitive marine environment within Kornati National Park and also includes Telašcica Nature Park. Because of that, the trip is run in small groups and daily routes are adapted to sea, weather and landing conditions in order to reduce pressure on fragile coastal areas and avoid unnecessary disturbance.

Travelling by sea kayak allows guests to move quietly through the landscape with far less noise and disruption than motor-based excursions. Guests are briefed on responsible behaviour around landing sites, swimming spots, marine life and waste, and the trip follows a clear leave-no-trace approach throughout. Entrance fees to Kornati National Park and Telašcica Nature Park are included, helping support the protection and management of these landscapes.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY

This trip is built around small-scale island tourism rather than high-volume resort tourism. Guests stay in a secluded local house within the Kornati area, and the itinerary uses local transport, local knowledge and locally sourced food wherever possible. Meals are prepared by guides or local fishermen, helping direct more of the value of the trip into the local island economy.

Because the trip is based in one place rather than moving quickly through multiple stops, it encourages a slower and more meaningful connection with the destination. This supports smaller-scale local services and helps travellers experience the islands in a more grounded and respectful way.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

This trip is led by experienced and certified local guides with first-hand knowledge of the Kornati islands, the sea and local conditions. Keeping the guiding local means that skills, employment and the value created by the trip remain in the destination itself.

We aim to create a respectful and inclusive environment for travellers from different backgrounds, and we do not discriminate on the basis of nationality, gender, race or sexual orientation. Because this is an active sea kayaking trip in a remote island setting, it is not suitable for travellers with limited mobility, and we believe it is important to be transparent about the physical nature of the experience from the outset.
