Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing we've worked to maximise the benefits of your holiday to local people and places, and minimise any negative impacts.

Planet

CARBON REDUCTION
We are committed to offering low-impact holidays, which benefit the countries and communities we visit, as well as our travellers and the natural environment. We believe in the transformative power of travel and aim to minimise our ecological footprint by selecting eco-friendly accommodations, encouraging waste reduction, and supporting sustainable transportation options where possible.

Our walking tours are also designed to immerse participants in the local culture, fostering meaningful connections with the communities we visit. We strive to leave a positive impact by engaging in responsible tourism activities, respecting local customs, and contributing to the preservation of natural landscapes. Through our commitment to responsible travel, we aim to create enriching experiences for our guests while actively contributing to the conservation of the destinations we explore.

Staying in a compact city hotel like Hotel Concorde reduces the need for long transfers and offers you easy access to amenities nearby, which supports a more low-impact, walkable stay. The hotel’s buffet breakfast provides a convenient start to the day, with vegetarian options readily available and some vegan-friendly choices typically possible, particularly at breakfast, with additional flexibility when requested.

This tour keeps the carbon footprint low by combining walking with shared local transport, minimising private vehicle use wherever possible. Transfers and excursions are organised efficiently, with short airport-to-hotel journeys and the option to use public buses, while most exploration is on foot, allowing you to experience Gran Canaria’s landscapes and villages sustainably.

ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE
We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy in national parks, archaeological sites, monuments, and other sensitive areas like beaches and coastlines; these should be treated with the ultimate respect to maintain them for future generations. Our tour leaders are trained to promote this message to our customers during the holiday.

This walking tour supports the environment by encouraging low-impact travel along established trails, forest tracks, and ancient caminos, helping preserve Gran Canaria’s stunning natural landscapes. By visiting villages such as Artenara, Firgas, and Tenteniguada on foot, walkers directly support local cafés, bars, and shops. At the same time, the route immerses participants in the island’s unique culture and geology, from volcanic craters and lush barrancos to historic promenades and cave settlements, offering an enriching experience with minimal carbon footprint.

People

LOCAL ECONOMY
We provide ample opportunity to explore the local areas on foot, where you can shop for local wares and crafts and immerse yourselves in the rich cultural heritage of the destination. To enhance your experience, as well as your tour leader, each holiday will be accompanied by a well-qualified and knowledgeable English-speaking local guide.

The Hotel Concorde offers a comfortable, family-run base in the lively Las Canteras district of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where its welcoming atmosphere and locally rooted ownership help support the island’s economy. Its central location, just steps from Las Canteras Beach promenade, encourages guests to explore on foot and make use of nearby independent cafés, bakeries and shops, contributing directly to local businesses.

Hearty buffet breakfasts at the hotel help to start the day right, while lunches are flexible and encourage guests to support nearby supermarkets, bakeries, and cafés - a great way to contribute to local businesses! Your tour leader may also introduce you to independent spots along the route for a relaxed midday break. Evenings are centred around dining in local restaurants wherever possible, offering a great opportunity to engage with the community and support the island’s economy, with only occasional dinners at the hotel when needed.

EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY
We are committed to responsible and sustainable travel practices that support both the local environment and surrounding communities. By selecting environmentally conscious accommodation, encouraging reduced waste, and prioritising sustainable transport where possible, we aim to minimise our footprint. Through respectful engagement and conscious travel choices, we strive to protect natural landscapes while delivering enriching and memorable experiences.

Our walking tours are thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in local heritage and culture, building meaningful connections with the places and people we visit - including the employment of local tour guides. As a company, we believe in workplace diversity and equal employment, with opportunities available to everybody regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or nationality.
